We are heading to New York in a few weeks to see The Cursed Child.  It will be myself, my husband, and our 13 year old son.  We have also booked a couple nights to go see some jazz performances at Dizzy's and The Blue Note.  We should have two nights free and will likely grab what we can at the TKTS booth.  Any recommendations?

FYI - I subscribe to the touring shows that come to our city and we also have seasons tickets to our summer music theater.  So, we have seen The Lion King, Hello, Dolly!, Wicked, The Phantom of the Opera, and Kinky Boots.  Jersey Boys and Beautiful are coming through next year and we already have tickets to them.

I think it all depends on the maturity level of your 13 year old, but I would say any show should be fine. Hamilton if you can get and afford the tickets. Dear Evan Hansen is another good choice.
Not to be confused with Dave19.

Once on This Island

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Check out the shows at The Public to see if any of them might be of interest.

My Fair Lady (you'll need to buy tickets in advance) and The Play That Goes Wrong.

SpongeBob and OOTI would be my backups.

As far as shows that you can usually get through TKTS, I’d highly recommend The Band’s Visit (it’s going to win all those Tony Awards for a reason). When I’m back in NYC in June, I’m also going to see Once on This Island which reportedly has creative staging that won’t be able to be recreated if it tours. I’m also seeing Spongebob which is supposedly way better than it has a right to be and will be a fun night out. All three are frequently listed at TKTS. Also, since Harry Potter consists of two separate long parts, both TBV and OOTI are only 90-100 minutes each with no intermission. That might be a nice change.

I'd highly recommend The play that goes wrong and Puffs. We saw both this past week. We also met the cast for both at stage door. They were very friendly and fun to talk to.

Spongebob

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Thank you all for the suggestions!  We will do a little research and then see what we can grab when we are in town.

Come From Away. I think that's one of the best family-friendly (ish) options on Broadway

I think Spongebob is a great show for a family with a 13 year old.

I actually have a thirteen year old daughter who has seen both The Band's Visit and Spongebob. She really loved Spongebob and did not enjoy the Band's Visit.

I love The Band's Visit to pieces and want it to receive almost every award this season—but a 13-year-old will be bored out of their mind.

I stand by My Fair Lady and The Play That Goes Wrong What Else Should We See?

I'm around that age but thoroughly enjoyed the band's visit, it depends on the kid. I also have ADD so I'm not the most attentive child.

The OP said they’ll likely grab tickets at TKTS so MFL is out. If their 13 year-old can handle the frequent f-bombs in Jersey Boys (they’re seeing it on tour), I think he can handle whatever adult themes exist in The Band’s Visit. As far as being boring to a 13-year old, it was just a recommendation (I also suggested Spongebob). The OP knows their son better than all of us and am sure will pick accordingly, especially since the OP indicated research will be done before selecting.
