Nice to see you posting reviews again Jeffrey. I noticed someone (who shall remain nameless) jumping the gun trying to take over.

New York Times Review. Definitely not a rave.
“Instead it just seems modest: surely the last thing any one ever accused Shaw or “Saint Joan” of being.”

Do we think this is the year Patrick Page FINALLY gets a Tony nomination? Talk about overdue!

This gave me a much-needed chuckle.

I thought he was really great in this. I’d be happy if he got nominated.
Caught this the other night and enjoyed it mildly. It's mostly a good university or small regional production. Rashad is ... competent, like a very good student actor. The voice is too small to fill the room, and she relies very heavily on monotonous rhythms and unmotivated gesturing with her hands. But her eyes do good work, and she is modestly compelling. I found myself wondering what Vanessa Redgrave at 30 would have been like in the role.
Patrick Page, Robert Stanton, and John Glover, however, all are actors at the top of their game, and it's a real delight to watch them hold the play in the palms of their hands. I wish I had enjoyed Jack Davenport more, as he has a terrific voice and talent, but he played Warwick like a teenage wise-ass, delivering every other line with a contemporary italic sarcasm.
I've heard much disapproval about the set, but I rather liked it; it's all based on a speech from the cathedral scene, in which Joan talks about the bells descending form the skies, and hearing her voices in them.
