Carousel Stage Door -- John Douglas Thompson

Just want to share my experience at the Carousel stage door. I went the day after opening night and Renée Fleming, Lindsay Mendez, Joshua Henry, Andrei Chagas, Margaret Colin, Brittaney Pollack, and John Douglas Thompson came out to sign and they all took photos.

John Douglas Thompson went above and beyond for all those waiting at the stage door. He came behind (yes, behind) the barricade and signed everyone's playbill. He also had full conversations with everyone, he talked to everyone for individually for at least 5 minutes. He even gave me a hug after I told him I loved his performance in Jitney.

I'm grateful when anyone comes out to the stage door but what John Douglas Thompson does has to be commended!

I was sitting near JDT at an early preview of The Low Road at The Public.  An elderly couple behind us was bitching about the play at intermission.  JDT turned around and warmly and graciously engaged them through the whole intermission, offering an alternative perspective on the play but mostly chatting with them about their theatre interests more generally.  Yes, really lovely man.

Jessie does not stage door often, but she does come out sometimes. You could've found this information out yourself if you checked Carousel tags/Imperial location on IG.

Renee is very nice. She was very kind to my mom who doesn't speak much English and was a bit overwhelmed but whose dream was to see Carousel onstage.

Same here. I've been a fan of Renée as an opera singer for many years, and I'm going to see Carousel for my birthday on June 1 (a week from Friday, ahh!). Really hope to get a chance to thank her for sharing her talent and to maybe get a photo with her.

JDT is an absolute sweetheart!!

Jessie most certainly does stage door. She has come out to sign 7 of the 8 times I’ve seen the show. She happily signs and is very nice, she doesn’t take pictures.

For the person who was asking about Renee...she always comes out, I’ve even seen her do so at matinees. She is very kind and happily signs and take photos.

This might be a surprise to some, but fan interaction in the world of opera is actually more common than it may even be on Broadway. I had the pleasure of working with Renee Fleming, too, and that's also just who she is: totally down to earth, with no pretense of hauteur whatsoever.

Everyone who came out at Carousel was absolutely lovely. 

Renee Fleming is once of the nicest, friendliest, most humble celebrities I have ever met (I also met her in 2015 during the flopped play "Living On Love". If I ran into her on the street, I never would guess she was one of the most prolific opera singers of all time.
