I’m 57, going to DC for a weekend next month. Can’t find a great deal on a hotel room, and a bed in a hostel with good reviews is very cheap. But all their photos show millenials hanging around their common spaces. I am very low maintenance, and not looking to spend much time wherever I stay.

You're absolutely not too old. Having more millennials around doesn't mean that you can't be around - it's a space for use by anybody. I say go for it. Don't let others hold you back.
I stay at the Chelsea International Hostel in NYC all the time. It is far from fancy, but inexpensive. I am only in my room, at night, for about 5-6 hours to sleep. The only drawback is when I'm trying to sleep, the rest on my floor are either going out or coming in early in the morning, slamming doors and talking loud. I return the favor to them when I leave at 6ish in the morning.
Yeah, I went ahead and booked it. Not sure why I hesitated. In the last year I’ve run 2 half marathons, I’m training for a Spartan race, and I’ve signed up for a full marathon in the fall. Thanks for the input!

Why would you leave such a horrible comment? Seriously.
My guess, and I'm maybe being generous, is that it wasn't a gay-bash joke, but a poorly-phrased reference to the grindhouse horror series "Hostel," in which those stock horror types do indeed die in GRISLY ways.
