*Looks up to the sky* Thank you for pulling some strings up there with whomever runs the show, David Bowie, cus this is heavenly news! I have always thought that it's a PERFECT movie to make the jump to stage. In a perfect world, Bowie would have lived long enough to write additional songs for it or..... could he have? What if this was something in development for awhile? Is it to much to dream that we might not only get this musical but maybe a new song or two written before his passing?

I like the movie, but am weirdly not that excited for this. I have doubts as to whether a theatre-bound version of this story could seem, er, laybrinth-like enough, unless perhaps it was very intricate environmental staging and the audience went through in ones and twos.
...I'm not sure why, but thinking about it now, I'm suddenly specifically convinced that if this was staged in a traditional proscenium theatre, Sarah would need to stay onstage 99% of the time. Various theatrical tricks could be used to 'move' her around the labyrinth, eg she could be spotlit while the rest of the stage went dark for an elaborate, dazzling quick scene change. The resulting disorientation might, perhaps, work as a substitute for the expansive feel of the labyrinth in the film. If we can't go through the labyrinth, the labyrinth must come to us. It could even become canon that the labyrinth is itself highly mutable, apt to change if you turn your back, or even right before your eyes. Sarah would have to watch her back during any lengthy audience-facing park-and-bark musical numbers, lol.
Okay, so maybe I am a little excited for this.

I was thinking when this was going to happen! Not a fan of the movie, but I was still hoping for it
I could see some really cool puppetry, but it'll be pretty tough to follow Bowie's iconic performance and the movie's creative visual style.

^^^I was just talking with a teacher who used to work for the Henson Company back when and was actually in Labyrinth in a small way himself, and I basically said I will ONLY accept this happening if Brian is involved. He's the only one who can bring his dad's magic to life these days.
I really think this is the opportunity Julian Crouch and Phelim McDermott need to come back to the mainstream with! Maybe not directing (we all remember The Addams Family), but definitely for sets, props, costumes, puppets, other design elements and some of the staging. They could really turn out all the visual effects and creative approaches needed to do this justice!
Although the movie is beloved and seems to be the only vision for this material, I would hope they go back and revisit the original book as well. Some characters couldn't really change (the Fire Guys), but some others could use a makeover to be more theatrical (do you hear me, 'Ello Guy?)!!!
