Why doesn't OOTI have a discount code?#1
Posted: 4/16/18 at 4:14pm

I have most of my slots for a May trip lined up but have been holding off on OOTI knowing I can get tickets at TKTS.  For many shows, I know I will pay less at TKTS than I will with a code but I prefer to have plans locked down and not wait in line.  It just seems odd that with what seems to be declining revenue, OOTI hasn't offered a code for some time.  It seems to me they would want to try to capitalize a little on those of us who are like me.  I'm curious as to what the reasoning behind the decision might be from someone who understands Broadway economics better than me.

Their attendance has been good and there is no reason for a discount code?  I'm not an insider or anything, it just makes sense.

If you think you're entitled to an autograph after a show, don't bother going.

They are betting that enough people like you will lock in tickets rather than wait. If there is a perception that you don't have to pay full price to see a specific show, then no one wants to pay full price. They are trying to show there is ongoing demand for their show, albeit in one of the smallest houses to fill on Broadway.

The issue becomes that some people might just avoid at full price all together and never come - or if they do go to TKTS they might end up paying less than they would have with a discount code depending on the discount available. I guess it's always hard to know what the better path is!

Even though their attendance in around 92%, their ticket price average is around $89-- which means LOTS of tickets already bought at discounts like TKTS.

I will say that paying full price 2 weeks ago got us the attraction of having our feet in the sand as we watched the show from front row center. It was easily the most thrilling, heartbreakingly lovely 100 minutes of theater we experienced in our altogether stellar 5-show weekend.

I waited until the day of and got a third row seat at TKTS for what they are charging for the last row on Telecharge.

There is also the lottery as an option. It is in person so your odds of winning are much better. Price varies from$39 to $59. That’s what I was going to do originally when I visit next week. But I decided that this was a show I couldn’t miss so I ponied up full price. I got Orchestra row F for $89 plus fees. I’m not sure if it was the right choice over lottery as I’m seeing the Sunday 7:30pm show which is one of the easiest lotteries according to what I’ve read on these boards and there are still a lot of seats. But again, I didn’t want to risk losing and since I don’t live here, it could be my only chance of seeing the show.

IMO, it depends on how much you want to see the show. Can you picture seeing something else instead of TKTS isn’t available or you lose the lottery?

BTW, there are also seats on Todaystix for $79 and $129.
