I don't believe Moulin Rouge will be in NYC in October; it's doing its Boston tryouts in June and July this year and I think the goal was for a transfer in 2019.

You already have some of the best shows on your list! Awesome choices!
I'd also recommend Come From Away and Hello, Dolly!.

Columbus Circle is all the way up at the southwest corner of Central Park (59th Street), so if your question is about proximity to Broadway theaters, you could do better. Most of the theaters are concentrated in the area from 44th Street up to 52nd Street, with just a few more scattered above there.

Times Square area is ideal if the focus of your trip is going to the theaters but you will pay more money for hotel room. Weather in October should be fairly nice so I guess the other question is do you mind walking a bit or taking cabs to the shows.

If a quick walk to the shows is important to you, I'd stay further south in the theater district. (I tend to leave my room as close to curtain as I dare to cut it.) But Columbus Circle does have the advantage of being close to Lincoln Center and being at the foot of Central Park during what could be (we can hope) a glorious fall. And the walk isn't long to other theaters -- I'd say 15 minutes at the most, with foot traffic. Walking down 8th wouldn't be quite as jam-packed as 7th or Broadway before the shows. Do you have a hotel in mind? I've stayed at a lot of them, as I'm sure many others on the board have, if you need any advice in that regard.

OOTI is already selling tickets through December.

Summer has horrible word-of-mouth. Not sure it’s recommendable at this point.

I wish this show well. I hope to see it in June. But just because a show is selling tickets for 8 months from now doesn’t mean it will still be playing by then.
I don't know if you have your heart set on your hotel in Columbus Circle, but if you want a hotel that is close enough to theaters while still being on a quiet street, I always stay at The Michelangelo when I go on my theater trips. It's located on W 51st and 7th, right behind the Winter Garden theater (where School of Rock is currently playing). It's in close walking distance to all the theaters, while still being far enough away from the chaos of Times Square.
I've always found the hotel very peaceful and intimate, not to mention beautiful. It has a great staff and I've usually been able to find some very good deals on the hotel, also. It's usually one of the more affordable "luxury" hotels in the theater district, if that's what you're looking for.
Here is the hotel's website, if you are interested.

As for your list of shows, you have some great ones. As others have suggested, Hello Dolly is a must. I hope you have a great visit!

The Great Comet was selling tickets through early 2018 when they screeched to a close at the beginning of September 2017. The fact tickets are being sold isn't necessarily an indicator of the health of a show, sadly.
Adding on to say that I have always found cabs reasonable in NYC so if the hotel is cheaper a bit further uptown, you may still end up saving money. Personally, I prefer being just a little bit away from Times Square, but I've also been to NYC many times. If it's a rare occasion, I'd definitely say to splurge a little and stay closer to the action!
Also echo seeing Hello, Dolly! I don't know who will be in the lead role by the time you visit, but this production really feels like a can't-miss. Like others have said, Once on This Island is also really good and if it's playing it should definitely stay on your list. Come From Away would also be a great pick and it seems likely to be going strong in the fall still, and it's not a show that needs "names" to be enjoyable (though Jenn Colella is a delight!).
