In May, I see Audra in concert here with the San Diego Symphony. Then in April 2019, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a program that "explores the decadent musical decade of the Weimar Republic, with music by Kurt Weill and his Berlin contemporaries". I could not be more excited!
Based on the review, it appears that the program is pretty much the same one that I saw in Sarasota a few weeks ago. That concert was sublime. I concur with everything stated in the review. She is such a warm performer; even if her voice were not as great as it is, the concert would have been great; her anecdotes were carefully chosen and always told us a little more about her.
She was last in Sarasota about two seasons ago (might have been three); the show overlapped by about 30% of the songs, all welcome, but the personal stories were 100% different, as if she was saying to herself 'some of these people were here two years ago -- I can't repeat what I did then.
To summarize, her concerts are so incredible that I am not sure which I prefer, her concerts or her performances on Broadway (I have seen all but Porgy and Bess (I just don't like it) and Lady Day (calendar challenges -- although I did see it on HBO and was amazed once again),) and thought she was great in all. But her concert performances rank among the best I have ever seen.
