Treating myself to a July birthday present of seeing the National Tour of HAMILTON in Cleveland. Tickets went on sale today at 9am, and from a “virtual waiting room” when I logged on at 7am to a “you will be assigned a random place in line” at the stroke of the magic hour, within 10 minutes I had the luck of the Irish at my back and a center mezzanine row H (the front row balcony Loge rows A-C were all Premium going for $435). Not bad for a first try!

I’m also going to see the show in Pittsburgh January 2019, but the touring cast will be completely different: in Cleveland it will be the Philip Cast, in Pittsburgh the Angelica Cast.

Have the two touring companies been out long enough to where anyone here has seen BOTH of them? It’ll be interesting to see/hear the differences (if any) on how the leads perform.

The Angelica cast is currently playing in Costa Mesa. I’d love to hear if anyone has seen this touring cast and your impressions. I understand Joseph Morales, who plays Alexander Hamilton, was in the Chicago production until early this year. Very excited to see him!

The Philip cast is actually playing Costa Mesa with Morales. Saw them in Seattle and he was very  good. Played the role similar to Lin IMO.

You are correct of course with the cast playing in Costa Mesa. Was looking at both touring casts side by side and got them mixed up.

I’ve seen clips of the Chicago “Hamilton” and Morales looks amazing in the role. I’m unfamiliar with the rest of the cast and will have to read up on them.

I saw the Angelica company when they were in LA and again when I just happened to be in St. Louis last month. Most of the principals changed but I really enjoyed all of them. Austin Scott was a wonderful Hamilton. I also loved seeing how much Sabrina Sloan has grown as Angelica since her first performance in LA.

Can’t wait to see the Philip company when they get here in a few weeks.

Glad to hear that about Austin Scott. The Angelica cast is coming through Pittsburgh in January. Would love to hear your comparisons between the two touring companies once you’ve seen the Philip cast. You may be one of the very few people here who would have seen both.

Is there going to be a third tour? Or is there already one? On equity auditions they are calling for ensemble parts for the Peggy tour

Is that going to be it’s own production or just a stop on a tour? The initial press release I read it as the latter

“Hamilton will play a three-week run, Jan. 8-27, 2019, at Teatro UPR, the theater at the University of Puerto Rico’s main campus in the Rio Piedras section of San Juan. Built in 1939, Teatro UPR is considered Puerto Rico’s most iconic stage, and recently hosted Spanish language productions of Evita, Into the Woods, Master Class, The Sound of Music and Once on This Island.”

The Peggy company will continue in North America after its run in Puerto Rico. As of last month, itinerary was still to be determined.

Wow! Very interesting.

And will this be the first time we’ve had THREE different official National Tours of the same production happening at the same time?

It's quite possible that it won't be a tour.

Perhaps after the Puerto Rico it will transfer to San Fran as the sit down

It would still seem unprecedented that we’ll have a musical with TWO simultaneous official National Tours while still playing in NYC on Broadway, and with multiple official sit-down productions in London, Chicago, and possibly a third in another major city, all at the same time.

Wicked had Broadway, 2 Tours, San Fransisco, West End, and an Australian production in 2010!

Very impressive. I saw the “Wicked” tour this year back in January and loved the show. One of my Top 5 favorites over the past two years.

And I can’t wait to see “Hamilton” in 68 days up in Cleveland, and again in January up in Pittsburgh. Very excited about this one too.

I saw both the Angelica tour in LA and the Philip tour in Costa Mesa, and I thought the Angelica tour cast was FAR superior (but I saw the Hamilton and Angelica understudies in both cities). I also saw the NY production in January 2017, and the Angelica tour was even better than the NY replacement cast IMHO (again, I saw a Hamilton understudy in NY...I'm 0/3 on seeing the Hamilton that  I was hoping to see). Most of my favorites in the Angelica tour have moved on, so most of the current Angelica tour cast is different than the cast that played in LA. Don't get me wrong...I am grateful to have seen this show with 3 different casts, but if I had to rank them it would be:

1. Angelica Tour (LA cast)

2. New York replacement cast

3. Phillip Tour (Costa Mesa cast)

Sabrina Sloan was absolute perfection as Angelica when I caught the tour a few months back.

I am seeing the Philip Tour in about a week. I am so grateful I was able to see the Angelica Tour OTC 3 Times last year. I honestly can’t imagine a better Hamilton/Burr combo than Michael Luwoye and Joshua Henry. I am excited to the Philip Tour cast - especially Shoba Narayan.

I've been lucky enough to have seen Hamilton 6 times so far and just saw Phillip cast in Costa Mesa this week. I like how everyone brings their own interpretation of their character and each show has been great but if I have to be honest, I didn't love the latest Aaron Burr. Don't get me wrong, he is clearly a great performer but his Burr is less serious and he sings his lines in a whimsical way that just didn't sit well with me. I had an understudy for Hamilton and I thought he did awesome. The sisters were great too. If I have to rank the casts in order of favorites it would be 1) original cast cuz well, duh. Then 2) original Angelica cast, 3) first replacement cast in NY, 4) original Chicago cast and then finally Phillip cast. Saying that, they were all great shows and I don't think I'll ever get tired of seeing it.

Those of you who saw the understudy for Hamilton in Costa Mesa - what day did you see it?  I am wondering if they are still having the understudy go on each Tuesday like they did for the Angelica tour.  Nik Walker is going to be out when we see it, so it will be interesting to see one of the Burr understudies.

I saw it Sunday night (Mother's Day) in Costa Mesa. Hamilton was played by Wonza Johnson, and I didn't realize until the curtain call that it was his FIRST performance...I saw the cast's reaction to him during the final bows, and then verified with the sound tech that it was actually his first performance as A. Ham. He did a GREAT job (only messed up a line in The Election of 1800 that I noticed). Shoba Narayan as Eliza was the highlight of this cast for me...she was fantastic!

I saw Ryan Vasquez in LA, and he was great! I saw Jevon McFerrin's 2nd performance in NYC...I've missed Michael Luwoye on both the East and West coast....maybe someday he will stop avoiding me. HAMILTON National Tour

Joseph and Nik are incredible together. Sorry you missed them! The wrong combination drastically changes the show.

Eager to hear any updates on the tour, especially for the Philip Cast.

36 days and counting! :)
