All Hail Queen Patti. |
Is she that self-conscious (no I honestly don't think so) that she constantly has to take shots at other, much more commercially successful performers (i.e. Madonna, Uma Thurman). Whom else has she trashed without any provoking whatsoever?
You're incredibly talented, Patti. One of the greatest performers in Broadway history. But my God, have a little class.

She it's not like she's writing opinion pieces about this stuff. She gets interviewed, people put questions to her, and she answers... now, sure, a lot of people would be more diplomatic and veiled in their responses, but she just says what she thinks.
Do people who argue about film actors using theatre to legitimatize themselves also complain when stage actors accept TV/movie roles? Is there a need for a dichotomy if actors seriously want to do both and have the privilege being offered parts in both mediums? Like Patti. Lord knows Patti has had her fair share of tv parts.

OK, but she didn't say any of that? Her quote in the piece referenced in this thread is:
“[Film actors] should come to the stage with the right intention. And they should be stage-worthy, not try to come to the stage for credibility. I’ve seen terrible performances by stage actors and I’ve seen brilliant performances by film actors coming to the stage, but it’s when an actor tries to legitimise themselves without having stage experience, that’s when you go ‘stop it’ – and there’s been several of those.”

Exactly. And 2 names come to mind. Madonna and Julia Roberts.
I have heard film actors say THEY wanted to play a part on Broadway and the powers that be make it happen. Because that star wants to do it. According to an interview i saw with Sally Field, she wanted to do GLAss MENAGERIE and they made it happen. Just an example.
Patti can be quite brazen but she has been around and paid her dues. I am sure she has seen/experienced a lot more than she talks about. I love her frankness. JMO
My post was about her making the dichotomy in the first place between "film" actors and "stage" actors. Those "film" actors who do stage work and keep doing it obviously see themselves as actors who work in both mediums.
God. She is so far up her own ass, I hardly know which end is up anymore. I’ve found her consistently the same in everything since the first time I saw her live a decade ago. She has her worshippers and they will disagree, but she is hardly the authority she thinks she is. After all, nobody loves Patti like Patti loves Patti.
Classless and unprofessional, as always.
She truly is the same in everything- she’s always playing Patti, just belt the numbers out as loud as you can and wait for the applause.
Norma
Evita
And one of my favourites Begbick.
I agree with Patti, there is no respect for the craft of acting anymore.
And I’m sorry to say Broadway audiences are the worst. Going to see a Broadway show is painful. There’s zero respect for the actors and even fellow audience members.
They’ll talk and eat???? During a performance then scream and video at stage door for Midler or Nene Leaks.
I know you’ll accuse me of being a snob but I value art and artists.
How's the ice cream at the West End? I heard you could get ginger flavor! Speaking of ginger, I wonder if Baby Spice will come back to play Roxie there. I hope we get another brilliant and artistic transfer from London like Mamma Mia!

I would have ice cream any time over candies wrapped in cracking plastic bags.

I'm sure it's all the same to the ushers who have to clean up the trash and dripped ice cream when patrons miss their mouths as their eating it in their seats during a performance in a dark theatre. Plus the point of the OP wasn't the noise but the fact they're eating in the first place.
Chicago is a broadway transfer and I loved the show when I saw it with the original London cast. I’m not too sure what shape it was in the end but I do know that the Broadway production was a mess in Autumn 2015.
Even though West End prices are cheaper people have a greater respect for not just the artists but their audience peers.
Now touring productions can be a law onto themselves.
You mention Mamma Mia and this whole phenomena has been written about by Jill Dolan in “Girls Night Out” a fascinating read.
