Posted: 4/8/18 at 8:22pmAlso got to seeing this one this weekend. I really enjoyed it. I haven’t read the book, but my sister said the keys are extremely different in the film. Just loved all the little references to 80’s films in the score. Still find it unbelievable Cleveland(Columbus?) is the fastest growing city in the world.

When it was over, two guys in the bathroom were bitching about how it was different from the book and totally sucked because it changed so much. So I guess I’m glad I didn’t know it was based on anything before I watched it.

I just finished the book. I didn't love it apart from the 80s references but hearing that it is different than the book, I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

I loved it. Absolutely adored every second of it.
I have not read the book, and I don't immediately plan on it. The movie was just absolutely wonderful in every aspect - the 80's references, the acting, the direction, the stunning visuals, the score - everything about it was fantastic. I especially loved the sequence with The Shining.

Saw it on Good Friday and loved it. Happy to see Spielberg making a fun popcorn movie again.
I was a fan of the book but thought the film made some smart changes. Think I prefer the movie overall.

I loved it too.
I've never read it, but I believe it was Blade Runner instead of The Shining in the book?
I'm glad they changed it as that was my favorite part.

Yeah the challange was different too. In the book, Wade's character basically has to do a first person playthrough of the movie as Matthew Broderick's characther without getting any of the lines wroing etc.
The Shining set piece in the movie was way more imaginative. I did like the Wargames poster on the theater entrance though.

I , too, have not read the book (although I own it) so I had nothing to compare it to. But, being a child of the 80s/90s - I loved the movie and have all ready seen it twice. I also have to admit that "Back to the Future" is my favorite movie so I was geeking out every time there was a reference or if they played any sections of the score.

I've read the book three times and plan to see the film this weekend. I fully expected there to be some differences considering all the licensing issues regarding all the references as well as the story to be abbreviated and changed here and there (as with every film adaptation of every novel ever made). I'm just thrilled it was Spielberg directing this. The perfect director for this project. I just don't know whether to go with 2D or 3D. I generally find 3D to be somewhat distracting, but I may have to do it for this one.

I saw it on an IMAX screen. I don't really care about 3D effects, but the vibrant colors and clarity of the picture made it worth it. I suppose it doesn't make a huge difference.
Does anybody know if there was a scene after the end credits? I waited (and waited) but the credits went on forever, and when the lights came up on the otherwise deserted theater and the cleaning crew started staring me down, I just left. With all the talk of Easter Eggs and such, I thought there may have been something.

Agreed! That's why I styayed tthrough the credits too. It was also a treat to hear Silvestri work in parts of the Back to the Future score.

A fun popcorn movie, which is all I was after. Loved the sequence stolen straight out of an old Mission Impossible episode where a key character doesn't know if he's in the Oasis are in the real world.
I could have done without the final battle entirely since the solution to combatting the dome over Planet Doom had nothing to do with a million warriors throwing things at it. Can anyone give me the source for the incantation they repeat several times? It's so familiar that it's driving me crazy!

I loved that final battle. I felt like I was a kid again playing with all of my toys (there were many that I actually played with that I saw).
And I just looked it up, and the incantation is what Merlin says in "Excalibur" apparently.

Saw it yesterday and loved it! The film basically encapsulated everything I expected from an adaptation of the novel. The Shining bit was fun, but a part of me wishes the film had been divided into 2-3 parts to capture more of the challenges (especially the original challenge to earn the quarter), but I wasn't disappointed.

It was really about battling the Sixers once the dome was down so Parzival could do the challenge.
Apparently, the novel is going to have a sequel! EXCITED!
