A Quiet Place |
I thought that this film was pretty fantastic. Emily Blunt's acting was pretty on point and Krasinski did wonderful in all the hats he wore - actor, director, and co-writer. The film was brilliantly done and I'll probably catch it another couple of times - I enjoy finding things that I don't pick up on the first time.
I had a thought - I would actually love to see this film expanded on and have a universe created around it, a la Cloverfield. There is a ton of potential in the origins of the creatures and how the world came to be seemingly dominated by them, and the stories of other people alive at the time - the film makes it clear multiple times that the family which the film centers on are not alone in their area. I don't want a direct sequel - something like how Cloverfield was followed up with 10 Cloverfield Lane - similar and based in the same universe, yet not directly related in terms of characters or plot points.
I've heard a lot about the use of prolonged silence in the picture. The only other film I can recall doing that is the Diary of Anne Frank. Any others?
I saw "A Quiet Place" this past weekend and when the movie was over, I realized my body was tensed up to the point that, when I relaxed - my stomach hurt. I don't remember being that affected by a movie in a long time. And what else was funny, was that when the movie started, people were talking and opening candy, etc. One person even said, out loud, "We have to read" when the subtitles for the sign language first appeared. But, when the first BIG moment happened - everyone shut up and it was, basically, complete silence for the rest of the movie. When someone coughed or cleared their throat, people looked around to see who it was. Also, at the end when a certain thing happens at the end **NO SPOILERS** a person yelled, "THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT" and we all busted out laughing.
Such a brilliant movie!

I saw A Quite Place a couple of weeks ago. I loved it and it was refreshing to see something I feel was unpredictable. I went to a weekday matinee and there were only 7 other people in the entire cinema!

That is true of a weekday matinee of... anything.
