Yes, it's quite dreadful, especially the "book" and inert direction. Even worse than Love Never Dies, which at least has some nice scenic design going for it. Listen to a Whitney Houston's Greatest Hits recording instead.
While the show itself is pretty bad, I thought Deborah Cox was fantastic. Hearing her sing those famous songs was something really special.
Just go in thinking it’s a Deborah Cox concert with Whitney songs and it’s fine. @markecib - best description and tag line for this show.
it's worth about a $29 ticket
My parents saw it in Tampa, and my mom was fuming to me on the phone afterward about how bad it was. (To be fair, she was partly fuming about overhearing a women say how much better it was than The Color Purple, which had just played Tampa two weeks before.)
Save your money, unless you're a die-hard Deborah Cox or Whitney fan.
Listen to your mother. Even if you were a Cox fan -- and her voice is quite powerful, for sure -- it's still hard to overlook her terrible acting and the awful material she's grappling with.
I'm still holding a grudge against Cox for her performance in Jekyll & Hyde.
The Bodyguard is a dumpster fire.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts. The show has major flaws, but if you live outside of NYC it’s worth a night’s entertainment. If I was in NYC, I would never see it.
