That's going to vary from director to director. And, sadly, it's not only up to them. If they don't have permission to change the sex of a character, they cannot do so. (Legally.)
Also: if you are "right" for Seymour, you wouldn't be right for Audrey. So you need to consider that.
Do you HAVE to audition for a specific role? (In my region, NO ONE makes you do that....even myself as a director....I want to see where I can use you - not where you want to be. )
Lastly: prepare a traditional audition, but also have something prepared for Seymour. At the END of your traditional audition, ASK if they'd be open to you giving it a shot.
i don't really know what the audition will be like, because I have only done theatre through school (this will hopefully be my first community play) and i am a senior, so...
there are very few opportunities for theatre where i live, so honestly, i will be happy with whatever i get
