There is an audition for lsoh coming up in a local community theatre... i want to be in this production very much, and i (a female) kinda wants to audition for seymour ?? i have always supported females trying out for male roles, but i live in a fairly conservative area. how do directors usually feel about females auditioning for male parts? should i just audition for audrey or one of the street urchins instead? thanks!

That's going to vary from director to director.  And, sadly, it's not only up to them.  If they don't have permission to change the sex of a character, they cannot do so. (Legally.)

Also: if you are "right" for Seymour, you wouldn't be right for Audrey.  So you need to consider that.

Do you HAVE to audition for a specific role?   (In my region, NO ONE makes you do that....even myself as a director....I want to see where I can use you - not where you want to be. )

Lastly: prepare a traditional audition, but also have something prepared for Seymour.   At the END of your traditional audition, ASK if they'd be open to you giving it a shot.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

i don't really know what the audition will be like, because I have only done theatre through school (this will hopefully be my first community play) and i am a senior, so...

there are very few opportunities for theatre where i live, so honestly, i will be happy with whatever i get

but yeah, thank you for the advice!

It really depends on the director. They might be cool with it, but the girl ( or guy ) playing Audrey has to be ALL for it too. Becuase there is a big kiss and they might not feel comfortable. Also, I think that the Urchins are way more fun then Seamore and Audrey. I was in little Shop this year and auditioned for Orin and got it. But when we did it, Audrey 2 was a girl and she was amazing.

Good Luck
