Is the railing in the first row of the mezzanine at the St. James a problem to see over? How about for a kid?

It is a problem, and not just for a child. It's not just the rail, though. There's an extension to the front of the mezzanine that covers the lighting which hangs from it. Because of this, if you're short, it's extremely difficult to see the very front of the stage. Fortunately, they have seat cushions, and I'm not ashamed to say that I used one.

I honestly loved the front row of the balcony. I was nervous about being too far away/high but it was a perfect view for Frozen especially to take in all the effects. There were kids in the front row with me and I heard no complaints about not being able to see. And of course there are the booster seats as mentioned
