New York Post gives it 2 out of 4 stars, but the headline is harsh

I find this quote from the NY Post pretty accurate "The last time director Michael Grandage tackled a Broadway musical was 2012’s “Evita,” which he inexplicably sapped of all energy and life, as he has done here. His staging is packed with nifty giant icicles (sets by Christopher Oram) and enough snowy projections for a screening of “White Christmas.” "

New York Times is mixed to negative (though he enjoyed the first 20 minutes).

I think mixed to negative is fair, but it was more positive than I expected! I think it’s a pretty accurate and fair review, and I’m glad he was positive about the performances. I lol’d at the gelato comment.

"The second act seemed to put some of them to sleep — the kids I mean."

That should be Disney's worst nightmare.

Glad he called out the dress change. The Cher comment is pretty true. They should have had more set I guess.

I’m SHOCKED that Green, and not Brantley, took this one!

Well, Jesse Green already reviewed the show while it was out-of-town, so I'm not surprised.

He did make a quick comment inferring that they’ve improved from Denver -esp the beginning

Although mostly negative in tone I find these reviews very kind to this extremely unimaginative weak version of a cute movie.

This finally has a pic of what the pants outfit really looks like. The color of it.

I wish the kids would have been put to sleep at my.first show instead of yelling throughout Act 2.

Didn’t see that anyone else had posted this. For those who care, here is Playbill’s page with links to all the reviews:

Did Jeffrey apologize yet?

I think these reviews are to be expected. In order to get really bad reviews, the Frozen team had to do something daring and creative. Sounds like they just sought for low mediocrity and achieved it. As long as it looks like the movie then the tourists will be happy.

I take it that you're (possibly) mocking me, but what do I have to apologize for?

Though the reviews were mixed-to-negative, I don’t think I read a single unkind word about Levy and Murin. Everyone seemed to love them, so that’s at least something.

I suspect Timbers was fired because he wanted to go daring and creative.

Why wouldnt Disney want to go daring and creative? I mean thats why the Lion King is still such a huge success!!

Yep. He had actual proper creative ideas for the show and Disney weren’t having it.

The glory days of The Lion King seem a LOOONGGG time ago now, and sad that Disney are happy to flog workmanlike versions of their films to theatre audiences.

I haven't been to the show yet, but it's disappointing to see that "boring" is a common word among many reviews. Doesn't exactly get me all that hyped!

I was hyped but the thread police shut me down. Sure it has some problems but overall it’s fun.

Because The Little Mermaid went creative and deviated from the original look of the film and that scared Disney forever after.
