Somebody recently uploaded vintage Lupone interview/performance clips to that video site, and since today was a snow day for me, I naturally sat and watched them all. Nothing incredibly Earth shattering or newsworthy, but I always find it interesting watching old footage of my favorite performers. Here are a few links, if you'd like to see more, click on the uploader's name and see what else he's got.

Patti and Mandy Interview

This is a brief clip from an interview Patti and Mandy did to promote Evita. It looks like maybe this was taken in one of the dressing rooms at the Broadway? They both look so young, and I don't think I've ever seen a joint interview with them from this particular time period.

Today Show, 1985

This one is from The Today Show, 1985, seemingly pre-Les Miserables. The best thing about this clip are the two brief press reel videos/B roll footage of her performing Buenos Aires and A New Argentina. I'm thinking the footage was shot either in Los Angeles or super early in the Broadway run, as her New Argentina vocals are not as solid, strong, and confident as they were for the Tonys and her latter performances. Her overall performance during that song seems nervous and unsure, leading me to believe that this when she was REALLY terrifed of doing the role. Also, is it just me or does the interviewer seem kind of bitchy, claiming Lupone is "still obsessed with Evita and Eva Peron five years later" and insinuating that Patti would give up her stage career for a husband?

I'll just post those two for now, but check out the uploader's other Patti videos. There is an interview she did while she was doing Evita in Australia, and I found it interesting that she said she is a soprano and the score is actually too low for her voice, I figured it was the high notes that were killing her. Also, I love her laugh she used to do back in the day, such a cute little giggle. Now she's got that full throttle cackle, which I love of course.

Sadly, these brief EVITA press reel clips aren't on this Today Show interview.

That Today Show interview is a trip, and I'll leave it at that.

What I love about the interview she did in Australia is how much the host just let her talk. It's quite a long video at over 17 minutes, but so much of it is her and a true conversation among the guests (including Alan Alda!)

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

BrodyFosse, skip to the 2:27 mark. The clips are very, very brief, and the audio of her interview plays over them. Maybe they aren't "press reels", I'm not sure what the term would be, but other than the commercials for the show and the Tonys performance I've never seen clips of her in the show at that quality.
