I am reading a book called, "ROADSHOW: THE FALL OF FILM MUSICALS IN THE 60S", by Matthew Kennedy.  It tells the story of how Hollywood studios try various and different way to make money from adaptations of Broadway musicals and original concepts.  The book provides interesting insights into studio thinking and rash decisions to make the quick buck.  So far I have read about the making of "Camelot", "Doctor Dolittle" and "Finian's Rainbow".  The story about the making of "Hello, Dolly!" was pretty interesting considering that they tell the story that all the way up to the first day of shooting, Carol Channing was still begging to play the lead in a film that Fox had already decided against not casting her in.
