Reading the exciting pre-opening reports on MY FAIR LADY got me to wondering. If the show has an extended run after Ambrose leaves, would there be a chance Benanti would consider taking over the role? I recall reading she once jokingly said that she'd give her pinky finger to play Eliza. I would hope she might just for the joy of playing one of her dream roles.

And if Ambrose's reviews are stellar, I wonder if she would be considered again for the starring role in FUNNY GIRL. I would have gladly bought a ticket to see her in the announced Los Angeles revival a few seasons back. Unfortunately, funding fell through on the project and it was abandoned. Where I have no idea how Ambrose would come off playing Fanny (there's certainly no resemblance to Brice) that's what makes it all the more interesting for me. They must have seen something really special in her for giving her the role. As far as Ryan Murphy possibly wanting to cast Lea Michele in FUNNY GIRL, I feel like I've already seen her as Fanny.

I’m not expecting to see Benanti in this production. Tonight is the third night of previews — I’m not thinking that far ahead personally.

I also can't see Benanti going into this production. Eliza Doolittle is probably behind her at this point. (And though it would be many years away, while we're talking about her "future," I'm sharing the excitement of many others on here to see her and Kelli O'Hara in a Follies revival.)

As for Ambrose, this is quite an auspicious moment. Like JIMG3 said, though, tonight is only Preview #3, so there's a lot still in store—but exciting times indeed.

Benanti was one of the many actresses considered for this production. Her not getting it isn't related to her age, as Ambrose is two years older than Benanti.

If Ambrose does the get the star reviews, acclaim and possible awards - what are the odds that the Funny Girl revival with her as star gets back on the boards?
