My Fair Lady Seating

Hi all,

Curious on opinions for My Fair Lady seating. The date that I am looking to purchase in August still has reasonable availability. 

From what I can tell the majority of the centre orchestra, Right & left centre orchestra are selling at the premium price of $299 + fees (except the back 3 rows). The remainder of the orchestra is selling at $177 as are the loge centre, loge right centre &loge left centre. 

The premium tickets are a bit steep but I would be willing to look at $177 tickets. Where would people recommend sitting in this price range (back centre orchestra, Row A or B centre Loge, or side orchestra on the aisle nearest centre? If side orchestra, which row?)

I went for Row A center loge, myself. The view should be really good from there. I was somewhere near there (I don't remember exactly where) for The King & I, and I could see everything very well.

The Loge is further away from the stage than the standard Mezzanine. I got tickets in the 100 section of the orchestra row G. I would prefer side orchestra first 10 rows to anywhere in the Loge. Decide if the full on perfect stage view is more important than being closer on a side angle. That should be your determining factor to consider.

I would definitely opt for row c or d in the 100 section of the side orchestra.

Considering upgrading from last row of the loge to Row B Seat 101. Would that seat be good? It's to the side but closest to center I can get and is front row! Would that be TOO close?

Is row b in orchestra the first row? Lincoln Center’s website seating chart is showing row c as the first one.

For this production, B is most definitely front row of the orchestra. :)

At the Vivian Beaumont, with its unique thrust stage, the first and second row of the side orchestra is an excellent location, especially if you are right on the aisle.

If you look at the 3D representation of the orchestra, you can see that the first two rows of seats are almost at the exact level of the stage and with almost no distance between the edge of the stage and the beginning of the seats. You can see every expression on every face. When someone steps forward on your side to deliver a song, it's almost like you are in the same living room with the actor.

In a show with spectacle, you would lose something sitting so close. In My Fair Lady, with its roots in a stage play, most of the "action" occurs in the dialog between the characters and their physical reactions to the dialog. 

The first few rows of the center orchestra sections are highly favored by many. The difference, besides price and availability, is that the presence of the orchestra pit keeps you a little more distant from the stage.

Hello, I bought 2 tix for MFL a month ago...

Orchestra Left Center Row O | Seat 206, 207

I got far back because my wife usually fears missing the "big picture" when up close. But this thread has me thinking twice. Should I instead get 2 of these (which are the only seats avail close to the stage for my dates):

Right Side Orch Row B 103,4,5,6

Left Side Orch Row D 503,4

I personally would not sit that close to the stage.  The sets are gorgeous and I'm not sure if you would fully appreciate the talent put into them sitting real close. But of course sitting further away, you don't see the expressions that clearly.   When I saw the show I sat in the last row (center) of the loge and I thought I had a great view.  But that's me.  I don't feel the need of breaking the bank for tickets to sit close.

I could not recommend the site aviewfrommyseat.com for questions like this. I try and take a picture of every seat I sit in and post it there, I also use it before buying tickets in advance (on the rare occasion I do). It may help you decide which you'd prefer.

The best seat I ever had at the Beaumont was left side orchestra, 2nd row on the aisle. The stage is separated from the seats by only a couple of feet and I was on about the same level as the actors.

This seat appealed to me (1) because my corrected vision is only so-so, with eyeglasses slipping around on my face. Since My Fair Lady is a play, a musical play, but one where the straight acting is so important, it is good to see the expressions on the faces of the actors as they are squaring off. Theater binoculars might do the trick for you there, and (2)  I suffer from being stagestruck. Not for all celebrities in general, but for Kelli and Ruthie Ann. When they stepped out on the stage to deliver "Hello Young Lovers" and "Something Wonderful." they were only 15 or 20 feet away.

If your vision is fine and you don't suffer from my vice then the view from the steeply-banked loge is very good.
