Hi everyone! I’m trying to figure out the musical my school director has picked for next year. He’s told me it requires about 20 strong females and 17 males. I don’t knoe if this includes ensemble but I assume it does? It’s also supposed to be pretty hard for a high school and would require most cast members to be at rehearsal every day.

Legally blonde? Ragtime?
Do you have any other information? The difficulty of the piece doesn’t really help and what is the racial makeup of your theatre program? Do you have enough diversity to put on a show like hairspray?
And I remember this musical I remember their brilliance And I might never sleep again...

Our program is primarily Caucasian, and we aren’t allowed to do very edgy shows - our last Show was a fairytale and before that was Oklahoma. Our shows are also usually pretty well known - see previous, Cinderella and Oklahoma. Is that any help?

What was that post a couple months ago where the poster said it was several words long and it ended up being Newsies or something? One of my favorite threads ever!

Was just about to say that.  Definitely requires a large cast and a larger commitment than something like Legally Blonde. It's fully sung-through and harder to pull off well without great vocalists who can also act and bring the emotion out of it.  Something like Legally Blonde is enough of a crowd-pleaser that it won't take the amount of work at the HS level to still be a successful production.

Agreed. It has at least as many child parts to cast as ANNIE making it the perfect grammar/high school show around today. I was never able to make it through the film but maybe a stirring score will help.

My director hates older kids playing children... so nothing like Annie. But yes, I agree les mis is definitely up there. Probably not State Fair... my director hates small town feel shows. Legally blonde could be a possibility as well, though! Any other ideas?
