Lottery Win ID? #1

Hi all! So my passport is expiring soon, which is basically the only kind of "government-issued ID" that I have. So while I'm renewing it, I'm wondering if my student ID would suffice as acceptable identification for a lottery win. Has anyone ever tried using theirs?

Yes, I've used mine before. It has my picture but not my birthday.

You could also make a scan of the picture page of your passport. I did this to get into a concert after I misplaced my driver's license and it was fine.

I've used my work ID as proof before and they accepted that. As long as your name and picture is on it. I've seen people use credit cards with pics on before and it was accepted.

For the future, you may want to consider getting the IDNYC card. It's very handy. I use it all the time when I don't want to give someone my driver's license, let's say at a doctor's office. You get a year of free membership to a whole bunch of cultural organizations too!

Isn't this for people that live in NYC though?

Yes, just for NYC residents.

An expired passport should be fine for a lottery, they just want to prove you are you... you're not trying to cross an international border.

Why would you have any issue with showing a doctor's office your driver's license?

Basically I hate giving out more information than necessary. I'm always on the alert for the possibility of identity theft. For instance, if someone asks for your driver's license in a doctor's office, often they put it on a scanner and make a copy. To me, that's overkill.

I also hate now when I go for physical therapy or to the drug store to pick up a prescription, you have to state your name and your date of birth in a room full of people. Date of birth is a crucial identifier and shouldn't be bandied about. Just my humble opinion.
