NY Daily News: Ruthie Ann Miles Injured, Daughter Killed By Driver in Brooklyn

Per the Daily News, two children, Ruthie Ann's daughter Abigail and Joshua Lew, were killed by a driver at an intersection in Brooklyn. Ruthie Ann was injured.

This is horrific; I remember seeing Ruthie Ann Miles posting excitedly on social media about her second pregnancy just weeks ago, and happy photos of the family. Such an immeasurable tragedy; praying for her recovery, though I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a child at the same time (or ever).

Years ago I was managing the merch for a couple months at Ave Q at New World Stages and she was a swing at the time. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome, know me, invite me out with the cast and crew, etc. One of the sweetest, most loving, nurturing, and giving people I've ever met. This is truly devastating and my heart shatters for her. So much love to her and her husband and family.

I know there is nothing we can do to ease her grief at a time like this, but is there something symbolic we could do as a BWW community to show our love and sympathies to her and the other family who also lost a child? I don’t know what it would be: donation to a charity, flowers, a card somehow digitally signed by all of us. I don’t know. This is just so sad.

After the initial shock and horror, this was my first question. The article also has something about the driver maybe having a seizure disorder, which I also thought meant restrictions on a license?

Very devastating and probably the absolute worst nightmare of any parent . Really shocking.

I can't begin to address how tragic this is, so I won't try...

Another (obviously WAY less significant) outcome of this is that it's highly unlikely that she will return to Lady Thiang in London as originally planned, which is a shame for all involved, as UK audiences would have been in for a real treat. 

Again, I'm not claiming that this is a priority - it's just something that occurred to me after about an hour of thinking about all the other, far more terrible things about this tragic incident - all of which have already been expressed in this thread.

How tragic. Many thoughts for both families. I just saw Ruthie in Chess & she seemed so happy.

The photo of the driver just texting on her phone on the stretcher makes my blood boil. Not emotion/guilt about the lives she just ruined...

I can’t even begin to process this horrible loss for one of our finest actresses. At the stage door there was no one sweeter than Ruthie. All my prayers for her.
