gavin creel back injury |
I saw his understudy at the Sunday matinee. While we were disappointed that Gavin was out, he was a basket full of joy to watch. Completely charming.
I realize it’s impossible to predict how surgical recovery will go, but does anyone know how long Gavin is planning to be out? I hope his recovery is smooth and easy, and that he’s back on his feet soon. But have tickets for the first week of April, and I’m a huge Santino Fontana fan.
Wishing Gavin a speedy recovery.
Also wanted to echo the praise of his understudy. What a beautiful voice and charming onstage personality.
Christian Dante White was a revelation yesterday. Just wonderful! A spectacular dancer, singer and actor. I was so happy to have finally seen him last night. He had great chemistry with Charlie Stemp.

"
The BWW review refers to Gavin in a very general way, and, to me, it doesn't read like an update on his current performance. It's very possible that the reviewer didn't see him.

I wish people would specify which understudy they saw; there's more than one!
I have to second how wonderful Christian Dante White was. As a Gavin Creel fan, I was really disappointed to not see him again, but the understudy did a fantastic job! I expect to see him a lot in the next few years, hopefully in his own starring role.
I wonder when Santino will start rehearsals. I saw him watching the show from the standing room slots on Wednesday night.

The NY Daily News review of Bernadette's opening night says Gavin's "out now until May."

Then again, the Playbill news article about Fontana coming in states "An end date for his engagement has not yet been announced."

Oops. It was the lovely Christian Dante White.
So how long ago did this injury occur, do we know how long Gavin has been out? It appears the Fontana casting is last minute to say the least- they seem to be operating behind the 8 ball here. It is also quite possible that Gavin has had the surgery and is in recovery now with the anticipated March return date, it seems fairly obvious he's not returning before Fontana starts.

So here is a question. If the injury is old and surgery was planned... why did he extend and stay with the show? Does production have to pay for his medical leave? Or when they say that Santino is filling in.. does that mean he just gets Gavin's salary while he is out? Or is it just a additional salaried position? How do these things work?

Are these the same friends that told you the production wasn't being filmed?

Unless you’re thinking of the Lincoln center archives, it wasn’t filmed.

I heard he'll be out for at least 6-8 weeks as Santino is coming in for March till he returns.
