Bandstand Tour Still Happening?

I just saw “The Humans” tour, but in the Playbill I noticed the company that produced the tour, Allied Touring, lists “Bandstand” as an upcoming production. Could this be a sign that, despite no news, the tour is still happening?

I wish it would. I'd love to see it here in Chicago.

It could still be happening. When I saw something rotten it said an upcoming project would be Groundhog day. But that was cancelled so mabye.

I have no info but I really hope so. It was an entertaining and moving show, and while a tour can't hold up to the Broadway production, I think it would do really well on the road outside of NY.

Friend told me it will be going out non-union.

I am not in the business, just a passionate audience member.  So, my question is for real, not snarky.

Are non-union tours cheaper to run than union tours? I assume the answer is 'yes' but I don't know.  Given that the show was a failure on Broadway (although I LOVED it), does a non-union tour become the only way it is economically viable, i.e., 'to have any chance of success, we need to keep costs as low as possible'?  Finally, and I am serious here, how do people associated with the tour lose from non-union productions?  I am guessing that, although employed, they are paid less?  Other considerations?

I've talked to a few members of the show's creative team who all noted that it would be incredibly difficult to cast the Donny Nova Band the tour, given the unique demands of acting, singing, and being well-versed in one of those instruments. This leads me to believe that, given the show's failure in New York and the lack of an announcement thus far, a tour is not happening.

My friend told me it was happening, but it's non union.  Truly disappointing for the actors.

I'm sort of curious in knowing what percentage of announced tours actually happen.

Bumping this 'cause now it has been over a year since the announcement.

Truth is I didn't care much about this show until I saw the proshot. BOY, it was so good and I regret not seeing it on Broadway.

@mplstheatrefan Allied doesn't produce tours, they are a booking office. They take existing shows and string together venues to create the tour. I'd say it's highly unlikely Bandstand will tour. Most of these venues are already in the late stages of planning their 19/20 seasons and don't want to take a show several years after it was on Broadway. It was going to be a tough sell as it was, the more time that passes the more unlikely it becomes. I could see them releasing rights for regional productions soon though.

I can't remember if it was here or Facebook/Twitter but someone said the Broadway audiences were filled with MAGA hats :/

It is true that there were no people of color in the show (unfortunate, as it would have been so easy to cast), but while the show was pro-military personnel, it was not about nationalism. Not at all. Also, it doesn't really seem like a lot of Trump supporters are very sympathetic to sufferers of PTSD. After all, their leader likes soldiers who "weren't captured" (one of the bandmembers had been a POW).

I saw the show many, many times. I never saw a single MAGA hat, much less an audience filled with them.So many misconceptions about this sweet little show. It wasn't an "America, F#ck Yeah!" kind of show. It was about the very real struggle of soldiers who are used and cast aside after they are no longer useful to the war machine. It really was too bad it didn't catch on.

Considering that we got a movie in theatres, I think we can assume its dead.

YES. THIS. I am as far from a tRumper as you get, and I LOVED Bandstand for the beautiful story of the forgotten soldiers suffering with PTSD in a drastically changed America, where no one is helping them or even talking abut the problem, simply assuming it would be Just Like It Was Before the war for those guys.

Seeing the show again in cinema made me so sad that it couldn't find its audience, or figure out a way to wait a season before opening.. I can't wait to see some regional houses start to schedule it.

Also, Kevyn Morrow as Al was a feeble attempt to diversify the cast. There were so many missed opportunities to bring more diversity to the show

I totally forgot about Kevyn, who was great as bar owner Al. Thanks for reminding me. It would have been so easy to cast a black man as one of the servicemen/bandmembers. They also shied away from committing to the character of Jimmy (I think that was his name. The sax/clairenet player who was studying to become a lawyer) being gay. in earlier versions, there were a few lines verifying that Jimmy was gay, but they were gone by Broadway. The subtext was still there, but all references were removed.

Drumpf supporters don't go to musicals --- the only "theatre" they attend is the WWF and monster truck rallies.

I really dislike the way BWW's quote function works. If I quote someone, and someone quotes me, it attributes someone else's quote to me. I wasn't the one on about a "White Person musical" and I would never yse a phrase like " lapppppped up". Ah well.

That may be funny, but it is not true. I have a few acquaintances who are 45 supporters and avid Broadway fans.

A lot can happen till May 2020. Odd to announce a tour stop but no mention of a tour.

They announced the tour right around when the Broadway production closed, but it was probably a “we’ll see if it happens” situation. It is strange there have not been more official updates since then, though.

Will this be equity? I imagine it’d be hard to cast the guys with Equity performers, much less Non-Equity actors.

I tend to think us liberals are more likely to attend theatrical events, but i have known some conservatives who regularly attend theater. In fact, after The Lifespan of a Fact, I spotted an audience member in his late teens or early twenties in full MAGA regalia (oversized hoodie plus ballcap).
