FROZEN Previews |

It's about embracing yourself, your powers and abilities, and not letting those who take any issue with who you are constrain you or what you can do. Obviously, in terms of Frozen's plot, the show needs to end with Elsa unthawing Arendelle—that just makes sense. But on a basic level, unthawing Arendelle involves Elsa backtracking on things that she did through her own inherent powers, simply because it was inconvenient for the kingdom and its inhabitants. To me, that does not lend way to a "Let It Go" reprise whatsoever. End with a reprise to literally any other song from the show but "Let It Go."
I agree that Let It Go is about being who you are, but to me it's about discovering who you even are to begin with. Elsa really has no idea what she is capable of and that song is when she starts to unleash and play with her powers unapologetically. But that all takes place in the mountains outside of Arendelle. She freezes Arendelle by accident out of fear while running away, and to me the ending of the movie/musical is about her undoing that. She doesn't thaw the ice palace she created while belting about who she really is, but rather the town she froze out of fear after being accidentally outed. To me thawing the town is when she shows everyone else she's accepted herself, which in turn allows them to come to terms with who she is. I don't see it as backtracking at all, I see it as her final coming out step.
At any rate, this is why I love live theater :) Something you were pretty meh about I really enjoyed, and something you may really like I might not care for. Everyone interprets art differently and takes something different away from it. I think our own personal experience influences how we feel about something and it's just interesting to get other peoples' perspectives. I too respect your opinion and enjoy discussing various interpretations :) As long as we can all agree that Caissie Levy is a daymn goddess I'm good haha!

She freezes Arendelle by accident, and the ending is about her embracing who she is, and through that learning how to control her powers. Did you feel like there was a conflicting message between the self-worth song and her unfreezing everything?"

I agree that Levy sang the hell out of "Let It Go." Her vocals are insane. But this is the Broadway production ofFrozen. "Let It Go" needed to have "Defying Gravity"-level staging to close out the act. A projection (!)of a staircase was laughable.
I also thought that starting Act II with a fun, light song from the "yoo-hoo" dude was cute and playful idea, but the way "Hygge" is done descendsinto embarrassing stupidity. It was just totally wrong.
(For what it's worth, I totally respect your opinion, Great Dame. I justreallydid not like this show, ha. Especially since the movie is such a perfect jewel,I felt really let down.)"
Yes!! You're hitting the nail on the head for me. I think if Let it Go hadnt been the act break perhaps we could have had for the first time reprise or a new duet that had Elsa freezing Anna's heart and then act two opening with "When Everything Falls Apart" (cut in Denver but I thought it was one of the better new songs.) I too think the movie is lovely and I wish we could have had a better stage adaptation."
I Maybe from California but if this was the case, I would actually be excited for Disney to possibly announce a national tour. Because Let It Go works vocally as an Act One ending but not in any other way. And no ife castle transformation? Sick Sick Sick

That was the night her glove also didn't fly off stage (she tweeted about it), but I'm wondering more about why she has an in ear monitor opposed to everyone else."
I'm not sure the legit answer, but my guess is that it's due to the overwhelming amount of cheering during the song. Post dress transformation it's a cheerfest, and I'm sure it's super hard to hear the music and stay on time.

That's a good guess. The house for sure comes down after Let It Go, as it should. I don't know how she can hear herself think much less sing in time.

Hm. Interesting about her in-ear monitor. Maybe she just wasn't hearing the certain things she needs to sing the song - piano, etc.
And I agree, it needed just a little more oof than a simple dress reveal. But I think Hygee works for the fact that when I saw it people were coming in throughout the whole song. Families sitting down, etc. So it's nice to have a throwaway number so you aren't missing anything.
Alyssa Fox, the standby for Elsa, will be on Sunday, October 14 at 3 pm and Wednesday, October 17 at 1 pm!
Caissie Levy will return for the night show on Wednesday.

Jelani Alladin (Kristoff) will be our all next week, October 16-21. His understudies Noah J. Ricketts and Jacob Smith will be covering for him.
Jacob Smith will be performing as Kristoff on October 16 at 7 pm, October 17 at 1 pm and 7 pm, and October 18 at 7 pm.
Noah J. Ricketts will be performing on October 19 at 8 pm, October 20 at 2 pm and 8 pm, and October 21 at 3 pm.
Jacob will be making his debut in the role. I’ve seen Noah in the role before and he surely does not disappoint! Really makes the role his own and gives a lovely turn as Kristoff!
Forgot to post this but today, October 17 at 1pm, as previously announced, Jacob Smith and Alyssa Fox went on as Kristoff and Elsa, respectively, joined by Aisha Jackson as Anna! Travis Patton was on for Bishop and Alicia Albright on as Bulda. Robin Masella and Spencer Clark covered for roles in the ensemble.
Looking to grab a ticket to one of Jacob Smith's Kristoff shows this week since I still haven't seen him. Is anyone else going?
MadsonMelo said: "I have tickets for Friday, do u guys think will I be able to see Cassie and Patti?"
There's no way of telling for sure, but the odds are slightly in your favor right now as they both don't have any (announced) scheduled absences for Friday.
If I had to guess I could say with greater certainty that Caissie will be there, as all her absences this week were for personal days, and were already scheduled. Patti is a wild card.
However, enjoy Noah J. Ricketts as Kristoff!
Aisha Jackson will be on again as Anna tonight, with the previously announced Jacob Smith as Kristoff.
Totally forgot to post about this, but Olivia Philip (Bulda) is out on medical leave and is being filled in for by Tracee Beazer.
Per her twitter, Alyssa Fox will be on as Elsa tonight at 8 pm! Joining her will be Noah J. Ricketts as Kristoff, as previously announced.
Natashalost, Thanks for your updates on the show. I have friends visiting and I think tonight was when they were seeing Frozen.

No problem! Glad somebody is finding them helpful!
Forgot to post this but I got lucky and won the ticket lottery on Thursday! Jacob Smith gave a lovely performance in his debut stint as Kristoff. Very different from Jelani and Noah but fit the character very well. As always, Aisha Jackson gives a ravishing performance. Every time she was on stage, it just made me want to smile. She's so radiant and you can really tell she loves what she does.
Both leads seem to be out alot. I never had a desire to see this. If I did, seems like one or the other or both, are frequently out and I would have been disappointed. Yes, it is live theater, but this is seems more than the norm. I have friends seeing the show tonight. They are big on seeing shows with the original cast. And are big seat snobs. They have to have premium seats every show they go see. I warned them that one of the leads might be out. According to Natashalost, one was out tonight.

Having seen both, Aisha Jackson is about 20,000 times more suited for the role of Anna than Patti Murin.
