Black Panther |
Got a chance to see this last night too and I absolutely LOVED every second of it. I haven't left a superhero movie feeling so exhilarated since I saw the original Superman in theaters when I was 6 years old.
Black Panther manages to succeed where recent superhero movies fail. It manages to tell an entertaining, fun, compelling story and managed to tackle serious issues that don't weigh the film down. Everything is on point. The acting, the effects, the action set pieces and the music are all excellent. And...there are BATTLE RHINOS!
It's a celebration of black excellence not to be missed on the big screen.
See it!
Plus.......She was my fave

YES! And how amazing is Letitia Wright in this? How amazing are all of the women in this? Just so good!
How ‘Black Panther’ Director Ryan Coogler Created an Ode to Black Culture for the Ages
"This is a film with a soundtrack by Kendrick Lamar. It’s a film that allows black women to be fully-realized characters and not merely exist but thrive. There may be more black women in this film than white women in the entirety of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (I wouldn’t be surprised). For Coogler, women are an integral part of the black community. You often see superheroes with love interests who give them a reason to fight or someone to save in the third act. But the women in Coogler’s films drive story and can save themselves. If our hero has them in his life, it’s not as an accessory—it’s as a living breathing part of his own aura."

My son is dying to see this, I want to see it, but not as strongly....so thanks for the raves here! My son thanks you, too!
The costumes look awesome from the stills I have seen!
It was better than I thought it would be . But nothing really special , it was an African American King Lear or August Osage County which wasn’t a bad thing
Michael B. Jordan is so attractive in this film I'm pretty sure I left the cinema pregnant....
Really enjoyed this film! Can’t really say much else. I just loved every minute.
edit: just had to add how much in love I am with Angela Bassett and Danai Gurira after this film.
Far and away one of the best films that Marvel's put out.

LOL you're not the only one. The whole cast is beautiful.
Going to see it again today!
Honestly? It's okay. I'd say your money and rent it. Could've shaved off at least 15-20 minutes. As soon as Chadwick Boseman leaves the screen, it drags. But I will say, Lupita and Danai (sp?) are BAD-ASS.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who was totally underwhelmed. It dragged and just felt like it was way longer than it needed to be. I get that the point of an origin film is to provide the backstory, but it felt like it was going in circles, and they really wanted to make sure that you got every detail

I really liked it. (and, I'm not a superhero nor marvel fan) I thought it was visually stunning and I really liked the the soundtrack. My son thought it was great.
Will I go back? Nah....but my son would, on a dime.
This is the first Marvel movie in a very long time where the origin story actually left me wanting more. Maybe it's because it's not one we have already seen a million times. But I would not have minded if we got to spend more time learning about Wakunda.
Anyway...it's a smash.

I am seeing this this afternoon. Looking forward to it not only because everyone I know who's seen it raves about how great it is, but I'm very curious to learn how "an African American King Lear or August Osage County" Marvel comics movie can possibly be "nothing really special." Because the way you describe it is singularly, definitively and inarguably special.
Given the continued success of this film, perhaps Hollywood will finally confront their own internalized racism about their continued insistence that "black films" have "limited appeal" and "don't sell." Because this film certainly blew that notion out of the water.
Hopefully it leads to more diversity in the superhero genre.

Absolutely marvelous movie. Believe the hype. Deserves its unparalleled success.
An epic with tremendous heart. Action scenes which are as beautiful to watch as they are intelligible to comprehend (Christopher Nolan should take notes). Politically sophisticated, nuanced and compelling.
Flawless casting and performances.
