Events have started tonight/this morning! Has anyone watched??
Israel’s pairs fugue stakers skated to Unchained Melody and I just thought how cool it was to hear Caissie Levy’s voice on the Olympics.
And I remember this musical I remember their brilliance And I might never sleep again...

Tonight was wonderful. I love the Winter Olympics and I love watching figure skating. I hope Nathan Chen recovers in time for the individual competition...Olympic nerves are truly unpredictable. Adam Rippon will be performing the free skate for the team event. Crazy that Patrick Chan is still in the sport!

As for the pairs, the Russians (aka Olympic Athletes From Russia) were flawless and the American pair did much better than expected.

USA currently in second in the team competition behind Canada...should be very interesting to see how it all shakes out. Looking forward to the Opening Ceremonies tomorrow night and more competition this weekend!!!

I am very interested in where the figure skating team event goes.I didn't expect the US pairs to do as well as they did in the short. I hope they can keep it up for the free skate. I'm also not very sure about the ladies. Do we know who they're using for that? But, we don't have much international success with them lately, so I'm not expecting too much. Yes, Bradie Tennell was 3rd at Skate America, but she wasn't really up against the greatest either. Very curious to see how she does anyway.

Had to work during the openimg and the app was giving me trouble so I am watching the 12:30am rebroadcast. Have to be up early so may have to watch most of it on demand.

I had originally planned to take tonight through Wednesday off to watch it.

Overall I like the opening ceremony, but the fake Olympic rings didn't impress. Made me wonder if the fireworks were computer-generated too.

Sick, pathetic POS

I thought there was something off with the imagine performance. Either they were lip syncing, there was an audio delay, or nbc dubbed them with English voices. Loved everything else, though.

Wow, these boards have changed. A few years ago this thread would have been at least 3 pages long by now. Used to love to come to the off topic board to chat during big televised events.

I agree.  I think people have moved on to Facebook, and I hate Facebook.

The other chatboard that I miss is the one on IMDB.  I rarely participated, but I enjoyed reading some of the discussions.  A lot were inane and posted by tweens, but there were some interesting threads there.

The other thing that I find disappointing is how so many threads turn into I hate Trump rants.  Once I see a thread go into that direction, I'm out.  When Bill was prez, I hated the I hate Clinton rants.  I actually love politics (I'm a news junkie), but does it have to enter into every discussion with such vitriol?

Back on topic, I enjoyed the opening ceremonies.  I loved the white tiger and the dragons, etc.  My only complaint is that I wanted to see more traditional heritage, and less computer-generated futuristic things, though I actually loved the drones.

I also was not happy with the coverage regarding North Korea.  I kept thinking of how Hitler used the Olympics for his own propaganda, and I couldn't believe how the press was covering the "coming together" of the two Koreas.  What a farce, imo.  Finally the press is getting criticized for their fawning, but what took so long?  Perhaps it's because so many of the younger journalists don't know their history.  I thought it was a mistake to "join" with North Korea for the games.  Why would you invite a skunk to a garden party?  He doesn't deserve the respect.

But back to the sports, I am so thrilled that Mirai Nagasu did such a clean triple axel.  You go girl.  I have been such a fan of hers since she first went to the Olympics (8 years ago).  I am so not a fan of Ashley Wagner, so I was really not happy when Mirai got passed over 4 years.

I agree that the media has been slightly off on covering Kims sister, but I’m not sure I agree that the two koreas shouldn’t have entered together. The Olympics are supposed to be a representation of peace and unity and I thought the two koreas coming in together embodies that. It shows, that many in both koreas are still hoping for a United Korea(even though that’s something I can’t see happening).

I very much enjoyed this Italian pair skating to music from the film "A Beautiful Life".  Such a lovely couple, and splendid Olympians.
