Signature Theatre production will be more of a workshop concept.  Paramount Theatre production will be a full scale pre-Broadway tryout concept.

I'm still in a diabetic coma from watching the movie, so this will probably be a pass for me - as much as I usually enjoy Signature's productions.

Not the biggest fan of the movie, but my family does like it and the theatre is so close to my home. I might have to see this one.

It will be interesting to see what kind of trajectory this takes.  In recent years Beaches, Diner and Freaky Friday all get their starts at Signature....only to fizzle out and not make it to the next level.  Granted, Freaky Friday was never expected to be a Broadway production.  We've also got the world premiere of Dave coming this summer at Arena Stage; following in the more recent past of Dear Evan Hansen.  It's awesome having all these new works right in our back yard.

It's a sweet movie that I always thought would have been better as a musical. If anyone can heighten the material, it's John Doyle. This is a show that would work with his whole actors doubling as the orchestra thing.

Agreed, a Once-style staging would work well here

Diner must have been quite bad not to come to Broadway or at least NYC. I mean it's got Sheryl Crow!

I hope they didn't hire Doyle just because they wanted an actors-playing-instruments concept. If so, they will be sorely disappointed to discover that any director can do that, and that the instruments gimmick is basically the extent of Doyle's imagination.

Is it wrong of me that I can only imagine Steve Kazee in the Dad role? Lmao.

It is. I'd cast Joshua Henry, Steven Pasquale, Will Swenson, Leslie Odom Jr, and probably about 50 other actors in that role instantly. Would love to see Katrina Lenk, or Mara David as female lead. There are plenty of other actresses who'd do the role justice as well.

Nothing screams "Irish Rocker" like Joshua Henry

Because character profiles never ever change in stage adaptations. Joshua can tap into the soul of the actual character.

Yeah, Signature is no longer doing the show.

Here's a quote about it from the Washington Post:

"The production had to be scrubbed from Signature’s calendar, company officials explained, because of the scheduling problems that arose after the rights to revive another show that was to have been included in the Signature season were withdrawn. That change, they said, made it financially impossible to stage “August Rush,” which was to be directed at Signature by Tony winner John Doyle. The show remains on the schedule of the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, Ill., where it was to head after the Signature premiere."

They're also no longer doing "Falsettos" - possibly because the tour will be at the Kennedy Center next summer.

I was really disappointed that the two shows I was looking forward to at Signature were cancelled. "The rights to "Falsettos" were pulled so they could do a national tour of the recent B'way production. That is sad in every way. The national touring venues are way too large for a show like Falsettos, which should have been in a small off broadway house where both parts originated. But most of the touring venues are two to three times the size of most Broadway houses and maybe even more than the Walter Kerr Theatre where this revival played. The Walter Kerr seats 975 people where most touring venues seat 3000-4000 people. The beauty and intimacy of this show will be drowned in them.

I know the paramount run doesn’t begin for over another month, but does anyone know who is in the car and whether it’s mostly NY actors or Chicago area folk?
