I don’t understand the Ben Platt Fever.
He’s always sub par in every project he does.
The ‘hoping I get it right’ act is lame.

And as much as I love Patti.
It was very self indulgent.

And extremely awkward for the Grammys. The momentum and vibe of the show.
It probably works well in her concerts. And she yelled her throat out to the rafters.

But the one thing I always thought of Patti in Evita is - why is she yelling at everyone?
She’s mad at the world! Which doesn’t make the character human. Or real.
Just an opportunity to be grand at every turn.
And further showcased more grandstanding. Or barking, if you will.

She looks so humble and touched by the applause at the end of that clip - it's so unlike her!

Okay. You obviously haven't ever read anything about Hal Prince's concept of EVITA. But yes, essentially all these things are exactly what he had in mind for the moment. In the show, this moment is "a politician's performance".  It's about manipulating the public to win their favor. He did not view the moment or Peron to be genuine or human or real in this song. And Eva Peron was really effective at screaming her crowds down. In fact, right after this song, that's exactly what happens in the show.

Well. It sounds incredibly abrasive.

"I am going to crack whoever is holding this camera in the head, but she sounded amazing."

Which one? There had to be at least nine of them. Maybe you mean the director who is choosing the shots? I, too, thought she performed wonderfully.

What a boring song!  The music is bland.  The lyrics are flat.  Would a woman from Argentina use the term "dressed to the nines" and be all "sixes and sevens."

As for Ms LuPone, she didn't sing; she parked and barked!

I’ll enjoy the wax.
Not everyone has to love Patti.
I respect her. I even enjoy the self adulating way she reads her own audio book autobiography for pure camp value. It’s self indulgent once again for silly reasons. But wax it is!!!

But what will prevent us from smelling the stench of nepotism once Mr. Platt’s father urges his movie studio to cast his son as Fiyero in Wicked?

Because that’s been smelling rancid for many months now.

And the Tony Win and Grammy performance is all steering it as the master plan all along.
Money talks. Just follow the money trail.

I thought they were both fantastic! Should we go ahead and schedule Platt for a revival of Company in 2028?

Ben Platt is nobody's idea of Fiyero.  Nepotism doesn't go that far.

I am not really a fan of Patti as a whole, but I have to admit that she was wonderful last night.  Brava!

10% of this business is talent, the other 90 is who you know.

Ben Platt is a talented guy. He certainly deserves what he has, and his connections have served him well. Unless you personally lost out on a role because you believe it was handed to him on a plate by his dad, why do you care? Why does it bother you? I could understand if the kid was a hack, but he isn't. He has real talent, so why be so butt hurt?
