This side of the boards is a ghost town these days, but it’s still nice to have a specific thread for listings and discussion, as we have most other years, should anyone like to participate.
Noms should be announced starting in the next few minutes.

I’m currently watching the live nominations stream and i’m living for the way Andy Serkis pronounces ‘water’ as ‘wou-tah’. Also, Tiffany Haddish puts a delightful emphasis on two-thousand forty-nine!

CNN totally effed this up. Had The Disaster Artist and The Greatest Showman for Best Picture and Michelle Williams on the screen for Actress. Biggest surprise was the absence of Armie Hanmer.
I was surprised about the Phantom Thread love. I was under the impression the reviews were not that great. Thought I read that Lewis was good, but the overall movie was just so-so.
Normally prior to the nominations and after, I try to see every film that was nominated. This year, I'm not that interested in these films. I already saw Dunkirk and was underwhelmed. Although Get Out was somewhat entertaining for a Friday night Redbox 27 cent special, I just don't see a Best Picture nominee there. The only remaining films I have somewhat interest in is I, Tonya, Call Me By Your Name and Three Billboards.
I find the inclusion of the post as best picture surprising since it’s only nominated for one other award and that award doesn’t really have to do with like the picture itself. Like if it had been nominated for best director or even costumes, I’d get the best picture nomination. I think the phantom thread love mostly came from not wanting to reward James franco? Really upset about Luca not getting a nomination, that films direction was brilliant.
Also, Christopher plummers nominations really upsets me. He was good, but it more or less felt like a hack job to me. Armie Hammer was breathtaking(I wonder if he was considered for lead, though or if there might’ve been a split vote between him and Michael).

For me it's disheartening to see Three Billboards getting so much love. I thought it was the by far the worst movie I saw last year. I found it offensive and racist. I hope it gets shut out.
Honestly, I’m hoping Mystery of Love is able to beat This is Me for best song.

I think it's a stretch to assume they nominated 3-time winner Day-Lewis for his final film performance just so they wouldn't have to nominate James Franco.
The film did well with critics, with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90 on MetaCritic.
If anything I think Denzel Washington benefited from the Franco scandals.

I feel similarly. I thought it was completely and absolutely fine and I'm baffled by the love for it.
The Shape of Water getting a total of 13 nominations more than makes up for the lack of a single nomination for Wonder Woman to me because I'm a big fan of Guillermo Del Toro. Congrats to everyone else and I'll be watching the show as per usual.
I don’t get the love for Get Out , it was just a remake of The Stepford Wives and really IMO was nothing special
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.
