Which theatres offer historical tours?  I've searched the boards, and it seems that the New Amsterdam used to offer tours.  Would it be appropriate if I called the respective box office of a theatre to inquire?

The Gershwin tour used to have a bit of history as well as the behind the scenes stuff for Wicked. I know once upon a time the staff at the Rodgers would show you around too if you asked and caught them in the right mood, but I doubt that’s the case anymore.

You can also sometimes get a tour at the St. James, though I haven’t heard of anyone getting one recently.

The Times Square Church also offers tours and is a repurposed theater, but the integrity of it is still there.

Most of the tours you hear about are more as a fundraising event, so particularly during the BC/EFA efforts.  The owners wouldn't run tours while they have a tenant, due to responsibility/privacy issues, and  if they don't have a show, they don't have a staff person on site.

Good luck.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
