There's a Chicago production opening at Pride Plays & Films soon, and I'm scheduled to see it next month.
I know virtually nothing at all about the show, and have never heard the score.
What am I in for? Comments, please.

A very delightful, old fashioned musical set during WWII. A love story between two soldiers, romantic ballads, tap dancing and dream ballets included. Watch it, enjoy it.

It's too bad Bobby Steggert didn't have the opportunity to take it to Broadway.  Could it be revived for off-Broadway?

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I was fortunate to see Bobby Steggert on one occasion only, and that was in Big Fish; in which he sang beautifully, as well as on the OCR.

I thought this show was sweet. The Chicago production is well sung and staged. The book and score are uneven but it's clearly a labor of love.

I found the most interesting characters in the show to be the partying gay photographer and the hard-working lesbian official. At times I wished the show was about them. Still the writers want an old-fashioned tragic romance and they give it to us with timid Stu and brash, self-loathing Mitch.

Stu's coming of age arc is messy. He goes from coward to playboy to romantic in the first act. In act two he makes a string of self-destructive choices. I would have liked a reflective song to clue me in to what was going on in his head. An 11'o clock number as it were.

Saw the Pride Chicago production yesterday, and the book and lyrics for me were topnotch; what disappoints is the music: falling short of a melodic nature on the whole.
The production otherwise is sincerely executed and performed.
Bonus: There are some really cute guys in the cast!
Been extended four weeks.

We were fortunate to see the first preview at the York. We loved it. Not sure if any changes have been made since the show we attended. Would love to see it again.

I enjoyed seeing this in NYC several years ago.  I'm surprised that Studio Theatre in DC has not produced Yank.
