Film Version Of bare In The Works |
"bare is a significant piece within the history of gay theatre.."
...sure, Jan.
I'd be interested to know if they were filming something resembling the original or more along the lines of the revisal.

This one will go the same route as the film adaptation of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and Faye Dunaway’s MASTER CLASS. That’s if it actually goes into production.

Screw Netflix. This is going straight to DVD!
I'm very excited for this, even though it'll probably be a flop more than anything. Not many people will be interested in it, and it's a bit too soon after the Falsettos revival proshot.
(Also if anybody has an AFFORDABLE Bare playbill PM me I'd love to have it)

Ugh. Are you looking for the revival? I was going through my Playbills just a couple of weeks ago and I believe I trashed a second copy.

Personally, I'm excited. I love the show (in it's original format. The revival can die a horrible death). So, I will be first in line to grab tickets if it makes it to the big screen
Saw both productions and enjoyed both. It will be interesting to see what music they use. Based on the article, it seems they are adapting the first production.

I pretty much hated the revival as well - but I'd be curious to see what a film could do with it. I always thought that it could work quite well in that medium.
I just hope they get actors who can do the songs justice.
Don't expect any A-List actors in this. I heard Jeremy Jordan was pissed when THE LAST FIVE YEARS didn't get a general release and kinda was buried in any distribution. He joined the project assuming it was going to be a heavily promoted feature film. A few of the cast of the HELLO, AGAIN film shared this attitude as well when that film went straight to limbo and just flat-out disappeared unseen by anyone.
Studios aren't keen on marketing these film adaptations of cult shows that the average person hasn't ever heard of. It costs millions to market a film and even with Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick headlining THE LAST FIVE YEARS film, no studio gave a rat's ass. Thank God for Netflix or that film would be on the safe shelf as the 2001 film adaptation of THE FANTASTICKS (which is now on iTunes, FYI).
Well, hopefully because small indie "Coming of Age" movie are in now (Lady Bird, Call Me By Your Name, etc) - it will help in it's favor.

I would take basically any production. If you find the other playbill I'll give ti a fabulous home!
