Ahmanson Theater - LA |
In the Crazy for You announcement, I think they made it clear they're going to have a replacement. I can't imagine they'd say that if they were just going to bag it entirely let alone put themselves in a position of having to make refunds to subscribers. They just haven't announced it yet and I haven't heard any rumors other than the unsubstantiated speculation on here when Crazy For You was first cancelled.

None but if you'll recall, the last time they canceled a show a few years ago, the replacement was Angela Lansbury in Blithe Spirit, so I'm sure it will be first rate.
Other replacements have been the Broadway revival of FOLLIES and GRY GARDENS with Rachel York and Betty Buckley, so they'll find something great. My pipe dream is Glenn Close in SUNSET BOULEVARD, but it'd have to be something rather soon.

That's right. I had forgotten about Grey Gardens being a replacement for Titanic at the end of the 2015-16 season..
I’m hoping for the London Follies production
I mentioned this in another thread but how about last season's "Sunday In The Park" - even if they couldn't get Jake. That would be one of my dreams. Or move "Falsettos" up to this season if at all possible.. As everyone has mentioned CTG has brought in some exciting replacement shows so I have some hope they are hard at work on choices.
Let's hope Center Theatre Group taught about "Sunday" when looking over productions already mounted last season
I can't imagine NT production of FOLLIES would ever go in - the last revival just played a few years ago..and any cast would be HUGE - and at great expense.
I have just came back from LA, where I saw Hamilton, Rotten, Spamilton and A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum.
The OP says that the Alhmanson is going to be dark for 6 months, which I find strange and sad, by which I mean LA has only 2 large theatres to fill and has a massive population, it is America’s second largest city after all and it struggles to fill both houses. Same as San Francisco with the Golden Gate empty for 9 months.
Sunset Boulevard would be an absolute coup.

And it did poorly at the box office . Sunset would be great. Glenn’s show did not get a pickup from Amazon. So anything is possible.

I would loose my mind in the best way possible if Glenn Close did SUNSET BLVD
I never got the chance to see that show - wow, I would loose my mind. Please Santa!
I'm an Ahmanson subscriber so I would love for them to replace a musical with a musical. But reading another one of your threads about London transfers, VernonGersch - OSLO would be a prime candidate for the Ahmanson. It has a large cast but a very simple set and would fit that stage well.
Phantom of London - I'm hoping you're not right. I'm hoping they'll announce a replacement soon. It would be a shame, as you said, for the Ahmanson to be dark for months. BTW - what does OP stand for? I'm wracking my brain but maybe it's too much eggnog

I hate empty theatres, they just look no different to a graveyard.
OP = Original Poster.
I had high hopes that Sunset would be going back to LA with Glen as a sort of coming full circle thing, since the closing on Broadway certainly did not feel like an ending for Glenn with the show - her speech just didn't seem like it was the last time she was playing that role. (One rumor from the Australian press was that it was going down under with her??? )
At any rate, I'd book my first flight to LA to see Glenn in Sunset again... just thinking back to a year ago when I was counting the days to see it for the first of 4 times in the Broadway revival on Feb 4, 2016
BTW - if you guys got Sunday with Jake that would be equally as thrilling. Truly a theatre highlight for me last year
