In the BWW article about the NT FOLLIES they describe it as Broadway-bound. Since when??

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

It looks way too big for a normal size Broadway house, especially a commercial production, and I can't imagine Lincoln Center would produce it.

Why wouldn't LCT produce it? It would be perfect for the Vivian Beaumont.

^ because the plan is for My Fair Lady to stay open for at least a season

I think it's going to be much longer before we see Follies back on Broadway.

Exactly, it just had a MAJOR revival that fizzled. I don't see why LCT would invest in it, and I can't imagine it would do well in a commercial situation.

The article on this site about the break-in describes it as "Broadway-bound Follies". Not that the info here is always right, but maybe it's something.

It would do well financially at LCT, which is a non-profit with a guaranteed audience. My Fair Lady probably won't hang around much longer than mid 2019, which would leave the theatre available for Follies should the production decide to transfer. Just saying that it could probably happen if they wanted to.

Could BAM or some other organization give it a month to run in NYC? It dose not need to be Broadway (as was pointed out above, there is a 0% chance of it being commercially viable)

I could see this as possibly a limited run in a bigger house falling this season’s closings

Follies is a notoriously expensive show. A limited run would not make enough money without extraordinarily high ticket prices.

Just because something is "Broadway-Bound" doesn't always mean it's going to be right away. Also, a lot of BWW articles have been majorly incorrect, lately:

Announcing that NBC's Bye, Bye Birdie was debuting in the Spring of 2018 (immediately corrected the article)

A current profile article about Christine Ebersole indicates she is still on Broadway in War Paint.

Either no one facts check, or rushed to get articles out with major errors.

Not sure if this is a sign of anything, but a Follies reunion is happening at BroadwayCon.....

It's a sign of nothing more than what it is.

And I can't imagine we will be seeing this on Broadway. If it was such a success why not transfer it to the West End?

I don't want a Follies Broadway revival for at least another 10 years. When Kristin Chenoweth/Benanti and Sutton Foster would be perfect to play Sally and Phyllis, respectively. If this production is the one that happens at that point, I'd be very very happy indeed.

Benanti as Sally? She's much more a Phyllis. I'd love to see a Kelli O'Hara-Laura Benanti revival in about 15 years helmed by Bart Sher at LCT

I doubt it, and while i enjoyed the production in London, almost every performance of the last revival was better than the National Production.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a Follies movie sooner then another big revival. Besides that the NT revival is amazing and I enjoyed it so much more then the last revival overall.

I am seeing it next week - can’t wait. I would just be shocked how it could succeed on Broadway. We just recently had a revival with some big stars attached that seemed to expertly keep costs down - a small capital and unexpectedly small weekly running costs. Plus had some decent sales, strong reviews. However it still couldn’t make a profit (maybe a spring opening might have helped shower it with Tonys).

If I were a commercial investor I wouldn’t put money into it. Lincoln Center might make it work but surely many of the subscribers would have already seen the most recent revival - so it’s not a garantueed hit.

Oh wow, I really want this to happen...

This just popped into my head, but what if Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett had done it in the 80's? With Julie as Phyllis and Carol as Sally?

I would switch Julie and Carol. I'd love to see a O'Hara/Benanti revival in 10-15 years.

Maybe to fill that empty spot in the Ahmanson theatre season in LA?
