I haven't ever posted on this board before, although I have been browsing it for many moons... ANYWAYS -- I received a TKTS gift certificate as a gift, and I thought you all might be able to help me out with a few questions I had since TKTS is not my primary venue for getting tickets:
- How much do tickets typically cost at the booth?
- At the Lincoln Square & Seaport booths, can you do next-day matinees? How is their selection compared to the big booth? (I'd like to avoid Times Square if possible)
Thanks so much, sorry if this violates any board policies!
I go to the TKTS for every show I see so your in luck. Tickets typically cost if the show is 50% around 75-90. But if you ask for a specific location such as the rear mezz, you can get a nice 34. However, when they first open they usually only have the first few rows of the orchestra. Yes, you can do next day matinee at lincoln center and seaport. As for as broadway shows, the selection is exactly the same.
I have personally found the tickets purchased at the South Street Seaport a day earlier are not as good seats as the last minute ones at Times Square. I never get there when it opens. I usually wait for the crowd to thin out a bit.
I have never used Lincoln Center so I have no idea.
I'm not convinced the selection is exactly the same. I believe the theaters release better seats if they don't sell on the same day, and they seem to be better seats, even unused house seats at times.
A show will generally release its unsold premium seats to tkts right before curtain (If it's already on tkts, that is). The quality of seats can very much depend on how many seats you need as well.
TKTS is waste of time. Just go to the box office and use Playbill discount without having to wait in line at TKTS. In fact, you rarely need the code. Just go up to window at box office and say "I'd like the Playbill discount." That works for me 90% of the time. No joke.
I have a gift certificate! Typically I use discount codes as well or I rush -- but thank you everyone! I think I'm going to try and get Kinky Boots at some point since I'm really sick of losing that lottery & I can try to rush Miss Saigon.

Aren't the lottery loser seats cheaper than TKTS, though?!"
They do lottery loser seats for Kinky Boots?! I've literally lost every lottery I've entered for that show with zero loser discounts! (Wild, I know. I've never lost a lottery as many times as I've lost Kinky Boots)

I never wait on line. If you wait til like an hour or half hour before, there is no more line. And those are usually the better seats.
The playbill discount often gives you different discounts for orchestra mezz and balcony however..... priced accordingly. TKTS as a rule sells only the. better seats. It's a matter of what you are looking for.

I entered for all three performances this weekend and got a loser code each time. $79 orchestra, $59 mezz. I used it today at the box office to avoid any fees.

As it turns out, I've been getting loser codes without realizing -- to be perfectly honest with you, I'd stop reading the emails after the unfortunately so thank you for making me aware of the fact that there are loser codes!
If it helps, I suggest downloading the TKTS app to your smartphone. That gives you a realtime look at what is available at each individual booth, including the percentage discount for each show.
And yes, you can get next-day matinee tickets at the three non-Times Square booths.
