I know the out of town try-out just ended, what are your hopes for in in NY? I haven't seen it yet, but I'd live to hear you all weigh in on if I should see it early April for full price or attempt rush and lottery if one is announced.
Wherein Tina Fey promises updates to jokes and music, hints at possibly making a surprise cameo as Ms. Norbury in a non-singing scene during previews, and tells a killer 2-part Harvey Weinstein joke:
I really hopes she does...the jokes all felt either lifted or fell incredibly flat. The music didn't help: I found it incredibly derivative and unmemorable.
The real solution to this, I think: bring the Book of Mormon team on board to rewrite the whole thing. The source material is so strong, but the musical translation simply didn't work. I say this as someone who really really wanted to love this musical.

I hope not. The music's needs some work but it's great shape.
Would it be a better decision to wait until a day before opening and attempt to get any ticket for opening night, or go first preview like I did for spongebob?
I saw the last show in DC and it's in fantastic shape. The script was definitely the best part of the piece, how often can that be said about a musical. Tina Fey really expanded on the characters, I also loved the idea of Damien and Janis being narrators really worked. Of course the entire staging and choreography were fantastic, it actually reminded me a lot of the book of mormon, so bravo to Casey Nicholaw once again. The score I thought was okay. It was servicable, nothing super memorable. Ironically, people have complained about the Sabrina George character, but in my opinion she has the best song in the show. I think this show will be a massive hit, despite what critics may say. And I'm just gonna put this out there, somebody give Kate Rockwell her tony now.
