Um, I don't know if I can properly express my love/obsession for Riverdale.  So far, the second season has cranked up the camp past 11 and it is off the rails BONKERS.  From the West Side Story-inspired rumble montage backed by the Pussycats rendition of Out Tonight from Rent to the Grease homage of drag racing the Ghoulies, I am giddy with excitement at the end of every episode.  I agree with darquegk.  Ryan Murphy must be sobbing his eyes out that the show isn't his and beat him at his own game.  Pass the Jingle-Jangle, Sugar Man, I'm watching episode 7 tonight!

I'm glad you're enjoying it... personally I loved season one but couldn't make it past the third episode of season two. I was starting to find it more cringey than campy.

I think it's cringey AND campy, which is sort of the perfect storm for this genre.  To watch Betty talk to Kevin about cruising in the forest and ask him why he doesn't use Grindr is a victory for all gay men and their female BFFs in America.  My husband did a double-take and said, "Wait...play that part again!"  I sang along with the entire Out Tonight montage (which had a thrilling visual finale).

I love this stupid, melodramatic, over-the-top show. It's delicious, cringey camp. And I gotta say...

...seeing an attempted rape foiled by female friends who then proceeded to beat up the rapist and kick him on the ground with their flawless high heels was so ****ing satisfying in the most visceral fashion.

AGREED.  This show is the toasted marshmallows on the sweet potatoes of life.

I am a fan of the art direction and the sexual overtones. I do think the writing was better the first season and I could do with a little less Jughead Jones.

Angsty Outsiders Jughead was a rather odd direction to take with that particular character, but I feel like if I can accept Betty's mildly dominatrix alter-ego (and why wouldn't I?), then Angsty Outsiders Jughead is just fine.  Though I am secretly hoping there will be a bisexual reveal with his character with a graduate student at some point so he can go full-on Call Me By Your Name.

I doubt you'll see THAT reveal, but the comic reboot line that inspired this series gives Jughead three defining traits: he's asexual (and Cole has hinted that might be an interesting path to explore on the show someday), he's vaguely-autistic-but-not-in-any-nameable-way (think Abed Nadir), and he has a very literal food fetish.

One infamous plotline involves proudly asexual Jughead coping with a crush... on a girl in a burger costume. Soon as she takes the costume off he loses interest, but whenever she's a walking talking burger with legs he's drawn to her.

For some reason, I have an easier idea accepting that in the medium of television, when I consider it campily distanced from its source.  I would HATE it as a comic book series, though.

The comic reboot line is weird, in that the closer you are to the main comic the more normal and slice-of-life you are, but when you get into individual character imprints things get kind of experimental.  Archie 2015 is very real, very grounded in a human but stylized way. Jughead 2015 gets into a lot more of the weirdness, like the food fetish plotline and Jughead's violent/erotic dreams (don't ask), plus it introduces more of the supernatural elements; Sabrina happens to be the girl in the burger suit. But then you get to Reggie 2015 (narrated from the dog's perspective of the humans), and Afterlife with Archie (straight up zombie apocalypse storylines).

I think I'll avoid those.  I don't have a problem with them, per se, but it's just not my thing when it comes to Archie in comics.

Well, this is certainly exciting news to hear that "Riverdale" is going to stage "Carrie; The Musical"!! What a perfect way to do the "musical" episode of the show. The CW sure is keen on all their shows doing musical episodes, after all it is the home of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and Rachel Bloom.

Considering that the producers are gay, they also like to showcase the musical talents of the stars on the network, even with the super hero shows.

It would be great if somehow Betty Buckley would show up in Riverdale! What a great way it would be to feature her in "Carrie" It sounds like they should be doing a nice job on this episode. Aside from that "Riverdale" is definitely a good show, and a unique way that they have adapted the Archie characters.Let's hope it continues to get good ratings and support from CW>

I am beyond excited for the Carrie episode!  Of any musical subject they could have chosen, I don't think any other show would have made me as happy as Carrie does.

The Archie characters are going to get a Bollywood film adaptation as well:

Some sources are claiming it will be a musical; that does seem likely, even if it's not officially confirmed.

That Bollywood film sounds like a fantastic idea.
