I'd been hearing stories about Levine and young boys for years but glossed them over because they came from someone who had lied to me many times in the past.

It's a new world, Dollypop. And it seems that person wasn't lying--at least in this instance.

Mo was in Adams Family. The show was cast by Justin Huff

Yes he did.
And that is NOT Kinky Boots.
This is not a light or foolhearty subject.
Specifics MATTER.

acityofstrangers said: “doubt that any of this is really news to Telsey. Their twitter profile picture currently states ‘I Support Casting Directors’ because apparently the whole company is a dumpster fire."

“I Support Casting Directors” presumably refers to the fight to unionize the position of casting director, and nothing to do with the recent harassment issues.

This is probably a good time to call out the Kinky Boots producers who continue to credit Randy Houston Mercer with their make-up design.  Redesign the make-up Daryl.

Who is Daryl? You can’t just “redesign” the makeup... its already set and credited regardless of what Randy did

He still did the work, and so he's still entitled to both the credit and whatever payment arrangements were made.

And he's even allowed to work professionally again once he serves his time.  (No one has to like it, but it's true.)

Daryl = Daryl Roth

And if anything on a show that can be redesigned easily and relatively inexpensively, it's the make-up.

Not true... the makeup has already been designed and credited and quite often the Makeup is sponsored by a cosmetics company.  If a famous set designer or director is accused, you can’t hire a new set designer or director!!

I wish I could say I was surprised about James Levine but I've heard rumors about him since the  late 70s when I was in my teens.  Over the years I've heard less and less rumors but that may because I moved away from the opera world.

And I would guess...contracts that were signed years ago have no stipulation for designers being replaced once a show opens.

Definitely not as simple as you are making it.

Plus absolutely no one cares. The reason people like Kevin Spacey get fired and replaced in a film isn’t because the producers find him repugnant and want to take a stand; they are worried about their bottom line. Kevin Spacey is highly visible and would likely affect their sales. The make-up design is not a factor for anyone buying tickets to Kinky Boots (or anything), so I find it very unlikely anyone would do anything about it. Now would they do something if there were public outcry? Absolutely. As mentioned, it can be done, anything can be done, but until they think it’s needed they won’t.

Just FYI, to clear up an earlier rumor in this thread - Telsey + Company is still casting HELLO, DOLLY!, CAROUSEL, and MY FAIR LADY.

When are people going to realize that “these things have been happening forever” is not a valid argument. Slavery had been happening for years, did that make it right? No.

Saying that people need to “suck it up” is basically saying that you don’t think the most qualified people deserve the job, just the people who s the most d. The current status is: If I’m a better actor but refuse to flirt with producers because I have dignity, I don’t get the part. That’s not right.

If only it were "flirting" -- which barely a step beyond being nice/polite.

Thank you!  And sometimes that even gets confused in both directions.   This is something way beyond flirting.

No one is saying it is or was "valid." Abuse and coercion are always wrong. People are just saying it was the way things were. Which was also true about slavery.

And by the way, slavery still exists--in parts of Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The clothes you wear and your Apple and Windows products are manufactured by slavery--you know that don't you? Don't you think that 50 years from now, the next generation will be asking you, "Raddersons--how COULD you have kept wearing those clothes and buying those iPhones when you knew perfectly well they were manufactured by SLAVES who preferred to jump off factory buildings to their deaths rather than work under SLAVE conditions to make your clothes and build your Apple toys? How COULD you? WHAT were you THINKING?" How will you feel when you are called out like that? Will you regret that you didn't do something about that now?

The world moves toward justice, but in messy and unpleasant ways.

Was at the opera at the Met.'98 or '99 and my host said our conductor tonight has a reputation for fiddling with the kiddies.

We were in a box with a direct sightline to the conductor.  It was very difficult to separate the beauty of the music[Wagner] he was creating from what I had just heard.
