Have not seen anything here about this musical with Constantine Maroulis and Molly Pope.
I stumbled on it last week and grabbed a ticket to see it next week on tdf. I was told there was a reading a while ago with a member of one of the boy bands. 98 degrees, I think.
Saw it this evening. Not the worst but not the best. The problem for me is that most of the music sounded the same.
I did a bit of research on the composer/lyricist to get a feel for his music. Not sure he was the right choice. I kept thinking the style was ok but deserved better arrangements and the lyrics were a bit clunky.
Thd stage has an industrial feel with scaffolding and platforms. There is a ton of lighting that is very welp done.
Every performer does the best they can given the music they are singing. All are in fine voice and sell the songs. There is an onstage band in the rear.
The book scenes are fine. It is an extremely interesting story. One that native New Yorkers would appreciate. Also, the costumes were quite beautiful.
They need to tinker with the sound sesign. I was in the second row and the vocals were lost and mostly drowned out by the band during the louder numbers.
The cast recording came out today. listening to it now. The sound quality is nice. Heading things I didn't hear when i saw it. Actually like the recording better but still an odd score.
