Australia votes ‘yes’ for Gay Marriage |
I do wish Muslims either assimilated and try to work within the community instead of outside it. I also believe some cultures want to live in there own little world rather than the world around them. Sorry had to rant.
And yes I know not politically correct at all. And very racist but had to say it
I am happy for the yes vote. Hate the way it has been done. Hopefully all people can get married.
Multicultural non-assimilation works great for superficial cultural characteristics. We get to experience amazing art, music, language, food. I very much like that in Australia people have brought their cultures here and made our country better as a result.. But yes, when it comes to fundamental human rights we need people to have the expectation of assimilation. I don’t want to live in Saudi Arabia. To be fair though, there are locals that would share the same views. Though clearly on average the results of the marriage survey show that there are likely some migrant groups with a disproportionate number of homophobes than the general population. Exactly as we would expect given their cultural and especially religious upbringing.
The people that that suffer the most are the poor gay children of the migrant families who remain closeted or get married. I know many.

Maybe religion isn’t so bad - unless you are gay or care about gay people. Funny how Islam is particularly bad and yet we have a bunch of brainwashed regressive left gay people thinking that the religion is not anti-gay. I wish I had their blissful ignorance.

Criticism of Islam is not racist. Religion is a chosen thing, at least for adults, and therefore it is absolutely appropriate to judge people based on their religious beliefs and affiliations. I certainly expect that many religious people judge me for being an atheist.
But I wonder how many people think disability or rather people with a disability should have a cashless card rather than cash?
The issue is we live in a democracy . And when you get rid of choice in a democracy the consequences can be severe.
Get rid of food stamps card and replace it with cash in the usa.
I didn't realise till I was told last weekend at my first gay wedding that there are TWO laws regarding this contentious subject. The Australian Government law [passed]and the Church law [still in discussion]. The Catholics will never agree and the Uniting will be voting in July.
The ceremony I attended was in a church with the Minister doing all the religious bits but needed to have a Celebrant there to actually conduct the marriage part and declare them Husband and Husband.
My friends had both bases covered because they wanted a church wedding but I would think that Celebrants are going to be very busy--hope so.
No longer a Legend, had to 'restart' as computer crashed, lost everything and couldn't remember original sign-in.
So SweetLips22 was born, slightly different avatar and very happy to be a Swing[edit...had promoted myself to a chorus member] where it all began.
