Odd no one mentioned this but Lea Michele was on Bravo's WATCH WHAT HAPPENS LIVE last night: Wednesday October 11, 2017 and was asked when she plans to return to Broadway and she stated that she spoke to Ryan Murphy a few days ago regarding FUNNY GIRL. Last week she performed a few FUNNY GIRL songs in a small concert in Central Park and she realized that FUNNY GIRL is how she wants to return to Broadway so she wants to get this off and running though she realizes it'll be tough getting it going.
Ryan owns the rights and I can easily see him getting this done like he did when he basically got the money for Roundabout to co-produce Long Day's Journey Into Night.

There was just a production of funny girl on the west end starring Sheridan Smith. Do those producers still have the rights or is it regional and Ryan holds the American rights ?
I already feel sorry for any cast member who would have to work with her.
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Broadway announces that they do not want Lea Michele.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Just like Barbra's Gypsy, this needed to happen sooner to succeed. They should have transferred right after the first or second season of Glee when people loved the show and the press was treating Lea like a rising star.
Dreamgirls is a hit right now in the UK. If Amber can be a draw in a foreign country then Lea should still be able to carry a Funny Girl production where Glee had its largest audience. As long as they don’t wait too much longer of course.
I wouldn't be surprised if this finally happens. It's about time for a revival anyway. I'm not a huge Lea fan, but she can sing and she would probably sell a lot of tickets.
I agree with the majority that I really hopes this never comes to. Lea Michele is not a funny girl, which is pretty problematic when playing Fanny.
I also think a Gaga helmed revival would be amazing, although it's even more unlikely now than before with her dealing with fibromyalgia and not being able to finish her tour.
Realistically, I think a Jessie Mueller led-revival would be IDEAL. I'm dying to see it happen.

There've been whispers of backstage misbehavior but it's mostly a response to her aggressively marketing herself. Do you remember how the zeitgeist turned on Anne Hathaway after she campaigned for an Oscar for Les Miserables? It may not be fair but showbiz has always been a fickle industry.
