I've loved her in pretty much everything she's ever been in, and Carrie is such a different role that I know she'll slay it! Plus I've never really heard her Soprano so it'll be a nice change
Sounds perfect to me. Just odd they wouldn’t put up a press release before changing the marquee

Now see, I know the Betsy Wolfe fans will hate me, but I think Mendez is a much more interesting choice for Carrie. She’s got spunk ians sass and is truly unique. She also deserves this. Brava.

I think it was really cute they kept it in the everyday Rapture family

At the risk of being hated by my very few friends on this board, I have to say I agree. This is crazy perfect casting.

tbh this casting is much more exciting to me than Betsy Wolfe as Carrie. yes Betsy is fabulous and i was saddened by her news but Lindsey Mendez is a more interesting choice by far.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I was one of the people who contributed to the board’s meltdown over the Betsy news, but Lindsay as Carrie would be absolutely thrilling. And what a delicious role for a performer who I’ve been waiting to break into the Broadway history books for years.
So...Betsy Wolfe was let go before rehearsals began because Scott Rudin and/or Jack O'Brien decided they wanted a more ethnically diverse principal cast? I mean, that's great...just next time, maybe an effort towards inclusiveness can happen before an official offer is made to an actor and a press release goes out.

Alternative facts?
Begin at the beginning and go on till you come to the end: then stop.
Wolfe was an excellent standard choice. Mendez is exciting.

Where are you getting that information? There is no evidence to suggest that wanting a more diverse cast had anything to do with Betsy leaving the project. Casting Lindsey as her replacement MAY suggest that they wanted a POC to replace Betsy after her leaving was confirmed, but that is very different from saying that they fired Betsy for that reason.
They did not fire Betsy Wolfe because they wanted to replace her with a non white actress. Please don’t start a rumor mill suggesting that. And please have more respect for the professionalism of all the people involved. If they specifically wanted a person of color in that role, then that is how they would have cast it to begin with. You don’t suddenly make that decision after someone has been offered a role and it’s been announced in the press. This isn’t community theatre. Again, don’t start ridiculous rumors.
And whatever her heritage may be, Mendez has to this point made a career playing roles in which race doesn’t really matter. I’m sure she’s the last person who would be wanting anyone to play the race card here.

I'm not starting rumors - I'm pointing out that a blonde white girl was announced for the role, then let go with no explanation, and replaced with a Latina actress. I have no inside information, but from over here this looks like a well-meaning but poorly-handled political move.
Who knows what the truth is. I'm glad they are being inclusive and am sure Mendez will be great.
No offense to Mendez - big fan to her and Wolfe - but Mendez is kind of "stage ethnic." She could be in Fiddler on the Roof or West Side Story. I don't think this is the case.
No, Baritone, you are blindly speculating based on your own assumptions. And it’s a really lousy thing to be putting out there, too, regardless of the “I’m just saying” trappings you wrap it in.
But hey, in sharing what it looks like from over there, we know now where you stand! Good to know.
