#1Broadway in the fall vs. winter/early spring?

I usually can plan a work trip to NYC and pretty much can choose from anywhere between Oct. through May or June to travel.  Are there more shows available in the winter/early spring months vs. the next few months? I seem to recall people saying discounts also tended to be more available in the winter months. I can only plan one trip so I want to make sure I go when the most shows tend to be happening.

I'd say go in the Spring if you can. March/April are when most of the new shows will be opening. Discounts will be easy to come by (for the most part) while shows are in previews.

Personally, I'm also planning a trip in spring because so many shows I want to see will be open then, such as Once on This Island, Carousel, My Fair Lady, Band's Visit, and Hello Dolly with Bernadette Peters.

I have gone in April the past two years, and it does seem like the ideal time to see Broadway shows. May is probably a little better, because then everything has opened. Only downsides: You miss the fall shows that have closed, and the hits cost more.

Am I missing anything, at least in terms of Broadway shows?

Thanks! I was hoping to see Ghost Quartet in late Oct and combine it with my work trip, but seeing as how I'm having a hard time getting the dates confirmed, I don't think I'll be able to see it.  Didn't know if I should plan for later this fall then or wait. To be honest, I'm not that excited by the new offerings at the moment; I've seen Frozen in Denver and will skip the Broadway debut, and am seeing The Band's Visit on a personal trip in early Oct.

I agree on spring. Most of the new shows I'm really looking forward to this season -- My Fair Lady, Carousel, Angels in America, Mean Girls, Harry Potter -- are all opening in March/April. irishgator1, I have a list of preview, opening, and closing dates at www.broadwaynowandnext.com, which may help answer your question about when more shows are available.

For me- Three Tall Women- with Glenda Jackson and Laurie Metcalfe- and Denzel in Iceman- does it get any better than that for things to look forward to- got great tickets to both- for me- these are the two must-sees of the season. I never loved Angels In Amerca- I guess I am weird- and unless they have some must-see star playing Eliza- Anne Hathaway ? for some reason Lauren Ambrose is not all that much of a draw for me- not so interested. I live in Atlanta so I cannot see everything- and another MFL does not do it for me unless the leads are people I love.
