Is Frozen the worst show ever reviewed out of town?

Frozen's reviews are definitely not the worst of all time. They're not brimming with enthusiasm like one would hope they would be, but they're just okay. I hope they'll implement changes for the better before it opens here in March.

What do Beauty and the Beast and Wicked have to do with anything together? One Disney and one non-Disney show? And who cares? It's not a competition. Frozen is going to get well reviewed or not on its own merits. 

I read a number of the reviews. They listed positives and negatives with things to work on. They were certainly better then many show previews I've read.

Don't forget that neither Beauty & the Beast nor Wicked were critical darlings when they first opened on Broadway.

Would it be possible for you to do a couple of things?

First, would you mind changing the word "worse" to "worst" in the thread title?

Second, would you please use proper capitalization, especially when referring to specific shows, in future posts?

Third, would you just take a few minutes (or seconds) before you hit "Post Message" to proofread what you've written?

The others also don't hint at all at disaster. The NY Times, in fact, says so much is already right, but that some smart work over the next five months will make it that much better. What a nonsensical, misleading thread title this is.

It seems like shows do out-of-town try-outs for several reasons:

1) To literally try the show out in front of a live audience then make needed tweaks (didn't Finding Neverland  actually replace all of its music after its first try-out run with Jeremy Jordan? Not that it helped from what I hear). 

2) To just give the performers a chance to get more practice in their roles in an environment that may be more forgiving than the typical Broadway preview audiences. 

3) To create buzz for the show before it moves to Broadway.

Ideally, I suppose it's all of the above, but we'll see if that's true for Frozen. Did previous Disney out-of-town try-outs get significant revisions or tweaks prior to their Broadway transfers? I believe the only theatrical productions of Disney properties (movies) I've seen are The Lion King (on tour) and Aladdin (on Broadway).

Nothing to add to the actual "question" asked, but to be clear about Finding Neverland: the composers of the show were jettisoned after its original London run. Once it was re-tooled with its current composing team, it opened out of town with Jeremy and then on Broadway after that.

I can assume one of three things:

1.  Harry11 is eleven year-end has not read too many out of town reviews.  

2.  Harry11 represents Spongebob and is trying to deflect attention from the competition.

3.  Harry 11 is a contrarian for whom the glass is always half empty.  

I had not noticed initially that he just joined the cite in the past 24 hours.  Based on that, I am guessing #2 is the right answer.

That said, I was actually pretty amazed at how good the reviews were for a show that is not coming to town for 5 more months or so, AND has such a bull's-eye on its back.  Anecdotally, I have already purchased tickets for Spring, because I figured that it would become harder to get tickets later on and because, cynic that I am, I figured the prices would go through the roof if it does get good reviews.  After reading the reviews that I have seen I am already pretty convinced that I have for $147, I think, will be selling for $400 - $500 after it opens.

From the reviews, I have gleaned that Disney has set the bar high, wants the production to be great, has already done a lot of things right, has work to do, and has the talent to get it done.  I am also surmising that the cast is already excellent.

I guess we will all know in a 6 months.
