I couldn't see a single empty seat at Comet on Friday or Saturday afternoon from where I was sitting, so I am not surprised by these numbers. So glad they went out with a bang.
I have followed the discussions regarding Great Comet, so I understand that its prospects were dim from the get-go, and of course its producers presumably knew that the advance sale was dismal.
Just out of curiosity, though, how many other open-ended productions have closed without ever actually posting a bad week?
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

The Evita revival slowed significantly during the fall, hovering between 50-65% of Potential Gross sales. Shuffle Along never grossed above 87.5% of its potential. If there is anything I would comp it to it would be The Boy From Oz, which similarly rarely fell below 90% in terms of capacity.
I think Newsies was a lot more expensive then we all like to think. Add to that if I had to guess Dinsney thought it would close before the tour would. Thus they decided to split the difference and save some money, and close the Broadway production so they could tour with the Broadway sets.

1) It didn't cost more that we (or at least I) think.
