Anyone have any experience at either of these hotels?

I'm going to be in town the weekend of the flea market, and I'm looking for a decent hotel to stay in.  Doesn't need to be terribly fancy, but want to make sure it's clean, safe, and comfortable.

I'm looking at either the Doubletree Times Square West or the Broadway at Times Square hotel.  Both have decent reviews on Trip Advisor, and both are in the low $300 range per night, which is pretty much what I'm seeing for a safe looking hotel for that weekend. 

Thoughts as to which might be preferable? Alternatively, is there another idea you had?

I stayed at a Paramount, I found it very safe and a perfectly good hotel (Lot of street noise, but I feel like you'd get that anywhere downtown). You can stay there for $200/night

I also frequently stay at the Paramount and have no complaints.

Thanks.  Just looked into the Paramount.  About $341 that night after all the taxes.  A definite possibility.

Why is that weekend so crazy expensive??

I personally never stayed in any hotel in NYC, but whenever I'm in the city I always rest in the paramount lobby! I would highly suggest that place. It is very peaceful and really nice. Plus it's close to everything and not in Times Square so it is a little bit less crazy when you walk out!

The Row on 8th Ave- stayed there for the flea market prior to living here- its right around the corner from the flea! Great, no frills, affordable.

Stay out of the times square proper if you can 

its congested and horrible and the restaurants are mostly tourist traps

I generally stay between 47th and 53rd-its where the better restaurants are, the park is close and the walk or short cab/uber is plenty close enough to where the shows are playing

these are all great quality hotels in much better neighborhoods

For 9/23, on Priceline Express there is a 4.5* hotel in Chelsea area for $219, with all taxes and fees it comes to a total $294.97. This is most likely the Innside New York NoMad.

There are a number of other 4* hotels under $300 with all taxes and fees included as well.

On Hotwire there is a 4.5* hotel in Midtown East for $199. With ALL taxes and fees it comes to $257.06. Amenities are Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Smoke-free rooms, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access. It's a match on BetterBidding.com for the Westin New York Grand Central.

All above is just a best guess. But in any event, these are 4.5* hotels for these prices.

The Hotel at Times Square is part of the Apple Core chain of 5 mostly non-branded hotels.  They're generally no frills but decent and a very good value.  They have a complimentary continental breakfast which is decent.  I usually stay at them in NYC, mainly the 2 in Korea Town (NYMA & La Quinta).  You can save a little money if you don't mind the walk.  It feels a little sketchy btwn Times Square & Korea Town but it's pretty safe.  You can book now and keep checking back closer to the time you'll be there.  You can cancel up to 1 day before.  And if you rebook at the prepaid rate you might be able to save a little money.

A friend stayed at The Broadway at Times Square Hotel and it was fine. No frills but she said it was clean and easy for her to get around from.

Why pay that much to stay in midtown when you can stay in LIC for cheaper? My go to hotel is the LIC hotel in Queens. It's brand new,clean and you get free breakfast. I never paid more than $100/night. 7 minute ride on the E or 7 into Manhattan.

I once stayed at the Broadway Times Square and it was nice - nothing fancy but it was clean, comfortable, and close to the Theatre District.

I've stayed here twice and I've had great experiences both times.  Its a small hotel  but the service has always been very accomodating.  I normally come in on a red-eye and once I got my room right away as they had it available and the other time I only had to wait until 10am, which I really appreciated. Its close enough to TS to get quickly to shows etc, but just enough off that its really quiet at night.  They have the breakfast in the morning.  It also has a Starbucks right beside it, which I always appreciate.

I've stayed at The Hotel at Times Square a few times....and like it very much.  However, because of their nightime rooftop bar, I might stay away from it on the weekend.    You don't hear noise in your room (at least I didn't) but the lobby at night can be crowded and they allow one elvator to be used solely for it...making YOUR wait longer to get to your room.

If you can hold off, I would suggest booking about 2 weeks out. In my experience, about a month before the prices can be at their highest. Or if you need to book now, make a cancellable reservation just in case you find something cheaper closer to the date. 

If you are traveling by yourself, I would also look into the citizenM.
When I visit I usually stay at the 44th St Intercontinental (you can easily find an IHG friends and family discount link) or the citizenM.

Take a look at the Belvedere on 47th Street. Sometimes the rates are quite reasonable. Don't know about September.

I've always stayed at the Millennium on Broadway (between 44th & 45th) and have been finding excellent deals on hotels.com all summer long. Just booked with them again for the weekend after Labor Day for a little over $200 per night. It's safe, very clean, and more business-oriented, which means usually no families with children. I've been staying there since 1998-99, every time I travel to NY.

The Broadway Flea Market always seems to occur during the UN General Assembly, one of the more expensive weeks for hotels in my experience.

I have stayed at the Broadway @ Times Square each of the last three years and will be staying there again in October. That alone says enough of what I think about it.  Clean, reasonable,safe,and convenient. Go for it.
