Ugh, going on from my last thread. It's really starting to get on my nerves the number of young fan and actors who have no appreciation for older classics like Carousel or Most of Sondheims catalogue and only care about new stuff like DEH and Heathers (both great shows). The reason I have gained an appreciation for these shows is due to the lack of baritone roles and songs in newer shows which has lead me to seek out older stuff. It is my wish that someday maybe Ben Platt or LMM or a big hot star these days will star in a revival of a newer show to bring back appreciation. Thoughts?
1) I could be considered a "kid" and I love all of those classics. I asked for the Rogers and Hammerstein DVD box set (South Pacific, The King and I, Sound of Music, Carousel, Oklahoma, State Fair) for my 9th birthday and I would watch them over and over again. I still consider them to be my some of my favorites. I also had Oliver and My Fair Lady on continuous loan from my local library. I, for one, am psyched for this upcoming season because of the return of a few of these!
2) I'm all about shows getting credit where credit is due but these "fandoms" are so over the top. I saw and enjoyed both Hamilton and DEH in their prime but I have become more and more underwhelmed by them. There's so much other stuff currently on Broadway and that has come before that is deserving of praise. I honestly think a good amount of these kids only like these shows because everyone else likes them and getting tickets to the show puts you in an elite/exclusive group of people, if that makes sense?
3) Don't get me wrong, it's awesome that young people are showing interest in shows but spread the love!
