It's been confirmed to be in LA for forever. Now that Bandstand is through, I'm expecting Laura Osnes to be free for Polly.

I was fortunate to be there that night, when I was entertained a lot more than I expected to be. An audience could hardly have been up more for a show.

On the way out two topics were under discussion by the audience. 1) "They put in all that work just to have one performance," and 2) Will the show return to Broadway next season.

Laura was fine, as we've come to expect, but Tony Yazbeck may be the most indispensable member of this year's cast.

His character at times is a pretty goofy guy doing goofy things, and IMHO it's important for such a character to have the audience on his side. Tony had the audience.

As soon as we start seeing a cast for this, I'll be getting tickets.

However, I won't buy unless it's the right cast.  I want triple-threat performers.  This show is brilliant when you've got that.  It's really terrible when you don't.

anyone know why this was just postponed?

I had tickets for this in February and just got an e-mail saying it was postponed "due to scheduling complications" which is the standard reason given when they don't really want to say what happened. We may or may not find out the real reason but waiting to see what they substitute for it.

Direct to Broadway? Taking the Lunt?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

For those crazy for a Crazy for You fix there is a pretty fantastic production of it currently playing at Signature Theatre in Arlington, VA now through mid January.

I, too, had a ticket.  Was going to take the Pacific Surfliner train up north to L.A. to see the show and make a weekend of it.  Ahmanson says "We'll be announcing a replacement soon that we think you'll love".  We shall see.

what's the story behind the story?

how does a show, pre sold with a subscription base -- and eyes on Broadway fall apart at the 11th hour?  this was set to open in a scant few months.

not only am i incredibly disappointed - I'm quite curious on how this happens

what will they replace it with?  are there any shows in the incubation stage that could fill this slot?

also, how do we know that any of the announced shows for the next season won't fall through like this one did?

The Ahmanson really are having a bad time with shows being cancelled ( I know two in recent years really isn’t a lot ) .

I wonder if this opens the way for the long rumoured Sunset Blvd to fill this spot ( with Glenn Close )

Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist. Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino. This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more. Tazber's: Reply to Is Stephen Schwartz a Practicing Christian

VernonGersch, my completely speculative guess is that it didn't actually fall apart, but rather, like Something Rotten, is skipping the out of town tryout and proceeding directly to Broadway.  As ACL2006 said, the possible impetus was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory closing, meaning the Lunt-Fontanne is now available.

The other typical reason for a last-minute cancellation is a sudden loss of funding, which seems less likely for a revival like this.

We're all just guessing but my experience is that Center Theater Group will cancel or postpone a show to the following season if for whatever reason they feel it's not ready or up to their standards. It could be a casting issue or whatever but it usually means the show is, in their opinion not ready and not going to be ready by the scheduled opening date. They are a significant partner to shows doing pre-Broadway runs in a major market to build buzz as well as being a major stop for the tours of those Broadway shows when they are kicked off. This move leaves CTG scrambling to fill a huge hole and their subscriber base not pleased. It would be very surprising to me if the reason was the show basically saying "Hey, a Broadway theater just opened up so we're going to grab it. Sorry you guys. Bye." I just don't see it working that way.

I'd be blown away if Sunset Blvd with Glenn Close - heck even without Glenn Close - would come in

CTG had this happen some years ago with Funny Girl which was a funding issue. I'll be anxious to see what they get as a replacement.

Yes, a few years ago "Funny Girl" at The Ahmanson fell apart when 3 of the show's investors withdrew from the production, and it was cancelled.  That had nothing to do with Center Theatre.

Never heard a rumor that "Sunset Blvd" with Glenn was coming to LA.  That's never going to happen.  Sure would be great though.

Realistically, how can they put together a show in such a short amount of time?

Is there something from London that could be imported?  I'd imagine that would be incredibly cost prohibitive

Anything mulling Broadway that could benefit from some extra funding?

I would love it if they brought Hadestown here for another out of town tryout - but I don’t think that is too likely to happen.

It would surely have to be something that already “existed” in terms of production elements- scenery, costumes etc. I wonder if they would potentially bring something that closed recently on Broadway. Maybe something like Bandstand? Comet?

HADESTOWN oor GREAT COMET would be great, although COMET is supposedly launching in September in San Francisco. Maybe DREAMGIRLS from the UK, although the last tour came to the Ahmanson maybe six/seven years ago. Same with FOLLIES at the National. GYPSY with Imelda? A pipe dream: a U.S. launch of THE LIGHT PRINCESS.

So far I'm here for SUNSET BOULEVARD, HADESTOWN, or BANDSTAND (with Laura maybe?).
